I just found out...
I am about 3 months post op and I just found out that I have PCOS. I have my 3 month follow up with my surgeon next week. I'm going to tell him about the diagnosis, but is there anything in particular I should ask him? Also, my friend has PCOS and is on Glucophage, but my GYN said if the blood tests confirmed that I have PCOS, I should go to see an endocrinologist, and didn't schedule any follow up with me. I have to go back to my PCP to get a referral anyway, so should I just ask him about medications, or do I need to see a specialist?
Thanks
Hi there! Welcome to OH & congrats on your surgery. Now that you're post op I don't forsee you needing to take Glucophage as it's an insulin sensitizing drug and as your weight drops your body will automatically become more senstive to the insulin you're producing. It probably wouldn't hurt to see an endocrinologist but I really doubt if medication is going to be needed. Good luck! Kristy
you probably should ask about a referral to see an endocrinolgist. I went from 285 to 180 in 5 months- but stopped losing at 5 months- and in october went in to see the endocrinoligst- and my lab work was WORSE than before- testerone is SUPER high- and estrogen so low- glucose wasn't high- but i was put on 1500 mgs of METFORMIN- glucophage is the genertic (or vise versa?).. doesn't hurt to see the specialist.. they will know for sure
(since the 3 weeks now i've been on the metformin- i have started losing again- i'm at 174 pounds- and this is from a woman that haden't lost since MONTH FIVE!!)
