Clomid

I believe i have PCOS, my new gyno is doing alot of tests right now on me, just started so i don't know what all he has up his sleeve. My cycles are pretty regular but i believe i a not ovulating (we will see soon though through some blood work) He said that if he finds no other obvious reasons for my infertility then PCOS then he will start me on a 6month trial of Clomid and that most women will conceive with in that time. has any one here used that drug, the good? the bad? thanx christina

I've been on clomid multiple times. I became pregnant w/ ds the first time. It was after more than 6 months (maybe 8?) and I was on 4x the base dose. I went on another trial of clomid 12 mos. later, and became pregnant in 2 mos. on the same dosage that worked the first time. Unfortunately, I miscarrried (the miscarriage was spontaneous, and not due to the clomid). I waited a year, and then tried clomid off and on for around 3-4 more years. I did not conceive, despite trying clomid, clomid and gbh, etc... I was overweight during the whole time though. The good of clomid... ds . The bad... non-spontaneous relations w/ dh, negative pregnancy tests, and dealing w/ the constant emotional ups and downs due to the hormones. The good definitely outweighed the bad though! Thank you Both, I can't really find any definate research, its really scattered...some people it works for and others it doesn't. It an emotional rollercoaster even without the meds, always wondering "am i this time??" I am sure it will only get worse..haha Christina

I did 5 rounds of Clomid preop and it did not work for me. Other than the hot flashes, that was all it did for me. Now that I am postop, and lost alot of the weight, I am hoping TTC will go more smoothly and I won't need the Clomid. Only time will tell I guess. Good luck hun!

Hi, Christina. I was dx with PCOS when I was about 18. I didn't think about IF until I got married and started TTC. I did a lot of research online and asked my OB to put me on Glucophage, but he was older and didn't know the benefits of it with PCOS and would not prescribe it for me. He put me on Clomid and I did not ovulate until I was on 150mg. After 8 (unmonitored) cycles, I decided to move on to an RE. The clomid did make me a little moody and the hot flashes...man did I have hot flashes. The RE decided that since I was on Clomid for so long with no results, she wanted me to do Glucophage for a while and see what that did with my cycles. I started seeing her in May of 2001 and by October of 2001 I was pregnant. I delivered a wonderful baby boy. When I decided to start TTC#2 I heard about a study of women with PCOS that wished to become pregnant. The study was a three armed study using Met and Clomid. One arm received Met and a placebo, another arm got Clomid and a placebo and the third arm got both. I qualified for the study. I got my white box with my meds in it and had to go in every monday for bloodwork to check my progesterone level. The first month I did not ovulate, but the second cycle I did. I knew right away that I was in the arm that had both of the actual meds. I figured I wouldn't spontaneously O without being on clomid and then I had the fun tummy discomfort when I was taking the Met. The study was 6 mos long. I ended up getting a BFP on my last cycle in the study and delivered a beautiful baby girl last February. I am a firm believer in Met/Clomid combo for ttc with PCOS. I wish you luck ttc and hope you see a BFP soon. Don't be afraid of the clomid. The benefits FAR outweigh the side-effects. Tabby

Hi Christina ! I took Clomid pre op, and was able to get preganant on the 4th month. I had no problems at all with it. Now that I'm post op, I'm hoping just maybe I won't need it for my next child Good luck!! Shannon

Christina, I conceived with my first round of Clomid and have a beautiful 5yo daughter now. Then when TTC #2 it did nothing for me. Ended up with injections and Clomid and AI and now I have twins also (I was 333lbs when I conceived the twins)! This is all pre-op, as I do not have surgery scheduled yet. I never ovulated, I had my first period at age 13 then never had another unless I had medication. Kolleen

my first son was concieved with the help of clomid after 6 years of going off and on it and gaining a LOT of weight each time I was on it.... Then after him, I went on Metformin the next time I wanted to get pregnant, 2 months later on only Metformin (2 pills a day) and NO CLOMID I got pregnant and had son #2, 4 years later I went on only the metformin again and a month or so later concieved baby #3, my daughter who was born 9 months ago. Have you tried Metformin? I would go with that first, it was a lot more succesful and seemed easier on my body- at least for me. sheila

I took Clomid for months before I had bypass and my only results were hot flashes. After bypass, my infertility doctor put me back on clomid along with Metformin and BAM we got pregnant on my 5th cycle - so I am not sure if it was the weight loss, the addition of Metformin or both that worked the second time but either way I am due in April Kia
