Help! Never ending period..
Ok so I am somewhat new to this board I have been diagnosed with PCOS and I have had some crazy cycles but lately its been out of control.. I had a period for 5 weeks then it stopped for 2 and now Ive had it again for 2 weeks its so heavy I am getting really scared. I cant go to a dr. because my husbands job closed down and well we have no insurance.. I am going through the super tampons like crazy.. the blood clots are huge.. what should I do? have any of you had this, if so what did you do? I need any help or advice.. do you know if they sell birth control over the counter? I really need to regulate these cycles..
Wendy
Thanks for the advice.. I think I'm taking a drive to the local Planned Parenthood to see if they could help me out..lol anyway I think I may already be anemic.. (I'm not sure on the spelling either) I have been feeling pretty tired lately (drained) I dunno but somethings gotta happen..
Thank you for replying.
(I hate PCOS!)
I used to have that problem all of the time and the doc would put me on provera. It would help regulate the periods. We discovered that when I would have the heaviest periods is when I had a cyst on the ovary. I would bleed sometimes for 8 weeks...so I know what you are going through. Hang in there, get to a medical center that caters to people who don't have insurance and will help them. Make sure to get yourself some iron supplements to take. Walmart has Fergon for about five bucks. That will help you a lot. take care
Thank you Lori..
I actually scheduled an appointment with planned parenthood for this wednesday.. hopefully they can help me aout.. as for the iron, I started those a few days ago, the only problem is that they make me constipated so I have to get some fiber stuff to make things a little easier.. so anyway thans for replying... Oh and did the provera work for you? did it really regulate your cycle?
Wendy
Hi Wendy,
I was also going to suggest Planned Parenthood. I believe they give birth control and could help with your bleeding issues as well (even if it's not with bc pills). Have you looked into getting on state assistance (Sorry, I always get medicade and medicare confused so I call it state assistance so I don't give someone the wrong name and have them on a wild goose chase and wasting time) for medical coverage? That might be a good option as well incase you ever needed to go to the ER for the bleeding. My sister has had to go a few times (to the ER) for her bleeding and she finally had to have a hystorectomy *sp* back in March, thankfully she had already had her kids and knew she was done so after everything she's been through (she's had horrible issues since she got her first period) it was the best decision for her after trying everything else. Good luck with everything and I hope that PP can get some answers for you and you can get to feeling better soon

Hi Cristy
I havent tried to get any type of assistance because my husband just lost his job.. there are a couple of job offers there and they have pretty good insurance so I dont know how long before we get insurance he said withing the next month,, I just dont know if I want to go through that whole process only to cancel it all in 30 days..
So how is your sister doing after her Hystorectomy? that was mentioned to me by my OB, I was told to wait to see if my PCOS gets under control with the weight loss first. It seams like its getting worse.. I would never get periods maybe 1 or 2 a year and know I get them for months at a time.. just today I told my husband that I would consider the hystorectomy because I'm just tired of dealing with these periods.. (still here, still bleeding)
Wendy
Hi Wendy,
I don't blame you, getting state assistance is a long process and if he's able to find a job pretty quickly then I'd just be waiting as well. Good luck to you guys on his job search :0)
My sister is doing well. She is a waitress so she went back to work, in my opinion, too soon. Her healing is going slowly, but even without going right back to work the recovery of it takes awhile. She was up and walking around within two days, but still had a hard time doing most stuff. I beleive she took 2 weeks off and then went right back to 'light duty' work. But she's having issues still and had to ask her doctor to write a note for her job because they were trying to make her do too much. But other then that, health wise everything is good. She said she still has heavy periods, but about half of what they used to be AND about half the pain, which is great. She would have awful cramps and each month they'd get worse and worse.
I hope you feel better soon. Good luck at your appt. this Wed. (I hope I remember correctly I've been reading the boards consistantly for the past week and knowing my luck I just said the wrong appt. with the wrong person LOL) with PP and I hope they can do something for you. Keep us updated.

(who can't figure out why her signature and photo aren't showing up on this board, but keeps forgetting to go and check LOL)
Sorry that you're experiencing this. But.....
After my son was born 14 years ago...I had no cycles at all....for 2 years....then I wanted to get pregnant again. But, drug after drug....I just didn't have a period without the pill or provera....
So, in the meantime...I went thru a divorce and was glad I didn't get pregnant again. I lost 60 lbs (the wrong way), then in 2000, I began bleeding. Huge huge clots. I was miserable. I went to the OB/Gyn who then in turn did D&C's about 4 of them in a row over a 6 month period. Then he recommended that I let him burn my uterus. I was tired, bogged down...almost delirious. So, I found a Primary Care Physician...and told her I couldn't take the bleeding anymore. I was going on 8 months of bleeding on & off. More on than off, really.
So, she called a OB/Gyn that she recommended. She knew I had PCOS from my medical history. I had been diagnosed of it about 13 years ago...and had the hysterectomy in 03. I went for years without any periods and all of a sudden, I was miserable. So, I needed a hysterectomy. She was right. The OB/Gyn put me in the hospital a day later and everything was removed...They increased my glucophage and here I am today, finally getting WLS!
I know you do not have insurance. Going to the health dept is probably a good step. But, don't leave the bleeding too long. You sound just like me. I didn't become anemic...but I was a lazy lazy person for a long time until this was taken care of. And, if it gets worse....get to the ER....they're not supposed to turn anyone away...so, please take care of yourself. Good Luck..... (((( HUGS!)))) Beth
