Will the Pcos diagnosis help with insurance approval?
I am waiting to hear back for my consult with the doc on WLS - sent in all the info - I have high blood pressure and arthritis - and am over 100lbs overweight - so I think I meet the criteria - but I was also diagnosed by infertility specialist with PCOS 10 years ago when I had trouble conceiving my 2nd child - was treated for infertility for 8 months and fianlly got preg - my regular ob/gyn never believed I had pcos because I have always had regular periods - however, I do have many other symptoms - obesity, high blood pressure, infertility, skin tags - excess facial hair -(although it is blonde and not very noticable) I still don't know if I really have pcos or if it was just a "ploy" to get the insurance company to pay for the infertility treatments. I DO know that 6 years later - after using no birth control whatsoever - after going on the adkins diet for several months - losing "some" weight - although still about 75lbs overweight - I got pregnant out of the blue - and I have always attributed it to the low carb diet - which I have read helps with pcos... So I guess my question is - if I had the diagnosis from the infertility doc 10 yrs ago - should I put it on my WLS forms as a complication of obesity - along with high blood pressure and arithritis - would the doc and insurance approve it quicker if I included that -? Do you think it is possible that I do have it - even though my periods have always been pretty regular? (Heavy - but regular) - I have also had to have some polyps/cysts removed from my uterus that was causing irregular bleeding - that really did help the heavy periods - any comments would be appreciated...LIZ
I would put it on the paper work, if you were diagnosed by your infertility specialist then you must have pcos, regardless of what your other doctor thinks. My mom suffered with pcos for 10 years with extremely Heavy periods. Eventually it got so bad she had to have a hysterectomy. It definitely sounds like you have all the symptoms. I know my surgeons paper work asked very specific questions about the pcos because he said it would help with getting approved. It wouldn't hurt to put it down. If nothing else I would definitely put down the infertility problems. The more problems you suffer from the obesity, the better chance of getting approved. Best of luck on your approval!!!
