"Now how well does Socialism work?? Well, why don't you ask Russia? " rhetoric is sad when poorly used, Russia was not and is not a socialist state. You want to judge socialism, check out Sweden, Canada and England, all have incredibly successful socialistic policies. Guess FDR was an idiot...socialism=bad. Then again we are purely Laissez-faire capitalist (omg did I just french I'm so bad). Subsidies are for the weak. Lion meat (sic) antelope! I'm not a Kerry supporter, I'm a red, but I hate bad rhetoric.

The argument isn't that if abortion is illegal it'll still happen. The argument is that illegal abortions are much more dangerous, unsanitary, and life-threatening than safe, legal ones. It's not a stupid argument, it's something that needs to be considered--are people really willing to go back to a time of back alley abortions where young women die because they made mistakes? No, I don't think abortion is a good option if you've been careless and made a mistake, but that's how I feel about MY life. I can't mandate morality for the rest of the world, and neither can you. A bundle of cells isn't a person anymore than an appleseed is a tree. Yes, they both have amazing potential, but neither one can be sustained alone. And if you want to start questioning contraceptive use, let's get into some demographics. What kind of women are getting the most abortions? Low-income, low-education women largely from very rural or very urban areas. How are they supposed to know about contraception when the only education being pushed in the school system is abstinence education? People don't just magically know about condoms and the pill, and all the other options when they hit a certain age. They need to be taught, and learning that abstinence is the only way precludes these people from understanding the precautions they need to take.
