That's awful and I 'm so sorry he had to go through all that. I'm sure if those who were treated so poorly went to the proper people in the Inag. Affairs Office, they will see the money/expenses returned and I would hope a sincere apology as well.
But, I can't help asking ....Who could we blame for this awful series of injustices...the RNC, the Dept. of Defense or Rumsfeld, Fox News or Hannity, maybe his Commanding Officer....oh! could it be Geoge or Laura's fault? (insert sarcasm here).
Topic: Support the Troops! Or, er... um.... make them support you at their own expense!
(Excerpted from MSNBC)
My son is an army reservist and he returned from Iraq last March. He was ordered to attend one of the inauguration parties.
I am prior service myself, so I felt very proud that he was chosen from all the people in his group. This particular gathering was to honor many of the soldiers and their families who have been to Iraq.
A group of five drove down from Long Island to Washington last Monday morning, and they were to return Tuesday evening.
Around midnight on Tuesday, my son returned home, looking tired from the drive. The next morning, he told me he didn't have a good time because they basically stood around and watched the president say a few words. He said there was no food provided for them, so they ate after the event at some fast-food restaurant. They spend all this money for this celebration and can't feed my son? He stayed at a local military base with the rest of the group, but they made him pay for the room.
Apparently, there was a mix-up, or they were short a room.
I don't care what the problem was, he was told to go, this was not an option, orders were cut for this excursion! I am disgusted and horrified that he had to even show his wallet for this event.
In addition to serving as a medic in the 310 MP Batallion, my son is a full-time student and works part-time to fill in the gaps the military doesn't. He takes his responsibility as a soldier very seriously.
I am angered at the way he has been treated. People need to know how some heroes are being treated by their own government. --Rebecca Lawson, West Babylon, N.Y.

Topic: RE: GWB second term
Sally,
Going after GWB's policies is what will bring about positive improvements for this country. There is nothing that he has done that deserves any praise.
Sure, he's faithful to his wife. I'll let her praise him for that.
He loves his daughters. I'll let them praise him for that.
He honors his parents--ok.....
But that's not what makes a President.
We have serious problems in this country. We have huge deficits, a large population of unemployed or under-employed, a large population of uninsured or under-insured, we have alienated our allies, we have been lied to about why our children are being sent to fight a war, and we are now facing budget cuts that will eliminate programs for things like drug-free schools, grants for communities to hire more police and huge slices to Medicaid.
None of the positive things you mentioned about this President address any of these problems.
I don't care about what kind of MAN Bush is. He can answer to God for that. What he has to answer to me, and you, and everyone else in this country is this: what kind of President is he?
He is a miserable failure.
Topic: It's High Time to Do Something about Social Security!
Because, you know.... it's in trouble (or so some would have you believe).
So... why, oh, why, oh why, is it so important to do what this administration wants to do when they themselves admit that "there was no way that individual accounts would help solve the solvency problem of the Social Security system."?
mediamatters.org/items/200502040012 (no need to add a www)
Not only does it NOT solve the "solvency" issues, but it CUTS BENEFITS!!!!!
Cut benefits in order to solve nothing? Can't we do better than that?
Topic: RE: Negativity on this board
This is the funniest thing I have ever seen.
"Bush is President so the facts don't matter!" LOL
All this after what you said to me. Which is:
"No Surrender, I have seen your posts and your responses... and I'm not even going to validate any of your above posted questions. I don't trust your reactions on this board enough to have a debate/discussion with you. "
So far, Kathy and my reactions have been to present facts to you, and your reaction has been to laugh at us and tell us that we're not worth talking to.
How about you come back w/ some facts of your own? How about you respond to any of the charges made by presenting a reasoned and logical argument supported by facts? You could even link to a site or two if you have to, though I'd stay away from Fox News, and Free Republic if you're looking for something unbiased.
C'mon! What have you got to lose? Just what is it about this President that you find so wonderful? Even if you don't want to knock down what we've said, you could tell us what it is we're supposed to appreciate about him.... right?
Oh I know... you could always resort to your "LOL Thanks for the laughs" form of response, which of course, carries so much weight to it. /sarcasm
Topic: RE: No Surrender? Where are you?
Putting your foot in your mouth has nothing to do with whether or not you respond to my posts. It has to do with you continuously contradicting yourself.
I've been swamped at work, swamped at home, sick and just plain to exhausted to even think about you.
So I guess, if I'm here a lot, I need to get a life, and if I'm not here, I have my foot in my mouth.
Sounds just like your kind of logic.

Not checking the veracity of documents that back up a story that already has a lot of credibility....
OR......
Totally distorting the words of a former president to make it look like he would support your plan if he were alive today?

Topic: RE: Two different views of freedom
Mike, you wrote....
Why does the USA always have to be the ones to defend the freedom of these other countries? Well if WE don't, who will??
Because freedom is OUR value and it isn't everyones. Many cultures value other things higher than Freedom. It's hard for us Americans to understand because it's so important to us. Maybe the French value personal pleasures above providing personal freedom for other nations. In many Muslim countries fighting for the will of Allah is higher up on the priorities list than personal freedoms. So if the majority of Iraqis value our concept of freedom above everything else and they are willing to preserve it after we leave, than great. Otherwise it's just a great big waste of lives.
Topic: RE: Two different views of freedom
I live near one of the few polling places for Iraqis in America, outside of the DC area. I was deeply touched when a woman, (about 35 y/o), sweetly thanked our President on the local news for his courage.
She also said, "Every drop of blood will NOT be forgotten!" "God bless you all! God Bless Pres. Bush!" and began weeping while saying, "I am too full of graditude and emotion, I wish I could say what is in my heart."
