A woman's right to choose..
Not everyone would agree that it is "morally" wrong to have an abortion - it is a medical procedure after all. I say "rare" because it is just that - a medical procedure that has risks AND can be avoided by using precautions.
Taking away the option is not going to stop it from ever happening at all but it will most certainly increase the risks to the women who seek it. If someone you loved felt despirate enough to go that route (in a world where abortion was no longer available legally) and died in the process of obtaining one illegally - how would you feel then? You've not only lost the potential child - you would have lost her as well.
This is an issue that will NEVER go away - whether it stays legal or gets outlawed. Guaranteed.
Mike - do some research and read about how things were 40 and 50 years ago for women w/ unwanted pregnancies - Read what happens when a woman goes to have an illegal abortion. We can not as a nation allow ourselves to revert to those days of back alley abortionists - who perforated women's wombs and left them to bleed to death. Or the women - who were so desparate to end a pregnancy - would stick coat hangers up their uterus in hopes of aborting the cells.
And - if you are not willing to support abortion - are you willing to support sex education - including birth control discussions - in the public schools? Don't take the easy way out - and say that is a parent's job - a lot of parents are unable to - for what ever reason - to have a healthy discussion with their teenager about sex, etc.
Your choice of presidents supports only the discussion of abstenience in public schools - Guess what - kids are going to have sex - I don't care what you hope for - they are - I work in a high school and I can tell you that 90% if not 95% of the students in the school are sexually active!!!
Arm young people with knowledge and easy access to birth control - and they won't need abortions...
Last but not least - I presume you are opposed to the death penalty too? Because - you said that "Thou Shalt not kill."

Mike,
Sir, I am a very firm believer in the sanctity if life and agree that abortion is murder. But in your posting I heard alot of blame on the sexual active female. What about the sexually active male? She's being impreganated by a male, right? She didn't get pregnant alone. The last time that happened, my Savior was born.
I feel little is said about the man's responsiblity in creating these poor little unwanted miracles.
While I received my training at a Pro-Life Crisis I remember one thing frequently quoted.............
"A girl uses sex to get love and a boy uses love to get sex." Many, very many of these women are lead to believe if only she'd "put-out" the relationship would become more intimate and loving. Things such as: "I'll be there for you no matter what", "It will make our love better and more real", "Please, please please, I just want to show how much I love you".
I honestly believe in my heart, that if men were willing to abstain or be chastened, there would not be the amount of murdered babies' blood running through the gutters of our great nation. (an average of 4000 babies a week).
If a girl would be taught that her value is within and not what we physically see, she would also be willing to think modestly and remain pure or abstain as well.
Mike, I apologize for my rants, but believe to the very core the above as true.
A super big "W" supporter, and proud too,

Sally,
Thank you for your great post. Not once did I say that the man involved had no responsibility in the pregnancy. If that's how you interpreted it, then I apologize for not getting my point accross correctly. It DOES take two to tango, TWO people who made the wrong choice. But just as an unwanted baby is the man's fault, except in cases of rape and incest, the woman is also equally to blame.
