Thank you. Good to know. Did you have any issues? He wants my BMI down below 40 and I do want to lose more but it may take me forever.

Topic: RE: HELP! Can't get my protein levels up, will I still be allowed to have surgery?

Hi, I fell back into bad habits of not drinking my protein shakes, however, I will be so on it for a few months before my surgery. I am hoping to have surgery in January. I am so scared.

Thank you to all who take the time to share and give me advice.

I wi**** was that simple in cutting out. Too many medicals bills for emergency surgeries & female problems and my student loans and im a single mom with no help from a deported baby daddy. So I seriously need help at this point. Another loan (another payment) at this point, no can do. Thats why I am trying to figure out a way for insurance to at least help me. Fitness is not my career but it helps me pay bills and I am limited because of this skin.

I am also a single mom of 2 via adoption so there never was a baby daddy to help me with anything, yet I still managed to get the plastic surgery I wanted.

OHSU has a plastic surgery residency program. Call and ask for a consult as you work on getting insurance approval.

I wish you the best.

You can read your health ins policy to see if there is any way.

I my experience, LaurainTexas and HollyKim are giving an accurate answer, even though it is not want you want to hear.

If there is anyway, starting with the exact wording of you policy may give you a way.

Never is too old. I was 58-59, but your surgeon will tell you, as they would with a person of any age, if you are healthy enough to endure the surgery. Please remember that plastic surgeries can be much longer than the WLS. Up to 8 hours, so that is another consideration with age. I would suggest getting a consult with a PS that charges low or no initial fee.

Before you go, I suggest taking some pics of yourself, nude without the head. That way it is easier to view your body objectively and see what really bothers you the most. I suggest that you consider correcting what bothers you the most first, because you might be one and done, so take care of what bothers you the most first.

You want to be in the best position to discuss outcomes with the surgeon.

Topic: RE: Curious- for those who have had skin surgery-

I've had a tummy tuck and breast lift. Then six months later I had breast implants and a brachioplasty. In two weeks, I am scheduled for a thigh lift. I lost a total of one pound of tissue during my two surgeries, despite setting a record for skin removed from arms (which is something I am strangely proud of). I wouldn't place much hope on changing your weight very much.

Let me know if you have any questions! I am a seasoned veteran by now.

Has anyone had approval from your insurance company to have skin removal surgery on your arms?

If so how? What do u have to say to convince them it's more than cosmetic? I am also a fitness instructor and I'm forced to wear long sleeves however it still shakes bad and my students don't want to see that. And my skin issues has cost me some jobs becuz I dont look the part.

Please help. I can never afford to have them done.

Thx

they won't pay at all because skin on your arms is not life threatening.

Yes I had it done while at about 265 lbs because I needed hip replacement surgery and the hanging skin posed infection risk. My recovery was horrible. He took 17 lbs of skin and fat. The wound split open and I was on a wound vac for many months. Lots of pain. I would not recommend it unless it's totally just loose skin they are removing.
