Topic: Fleur-de-lis Abdominoplasty... experiences?

Has anyone in here had a fleur de lis abdominoplasty? how was your recovery? I went to a few consultations and only one surgeon recommended a straight forward abdominoplasty and the other 2 for the fleur de lis. I al leaning toward this procedure because of the "B", (and that not for boobs... lol) that my stomach has.

What are your experiences?

I was just researching this yesterday! I am pretty sure that once I have WLS, that my skin will not bounce back to "Sports Illustrated bikini-ready" so I am sure surgical intervention is in my starts. There were a few individuals in my support group who have asked questions and stressed that if you have issues with your skin, GET IN THE OFFICE to document. Take a photo and add it to a thumb drive so it can be tracked and document everything that would help you win your case.

Here are some articles I found regarding insurance and plastic surgery (I found all of these on this website, so I am not linking you to tim-buck-tu):

Is It Mission Impossible For Insurance To Pay For Plastic Surgery After WLS?

Will Insurance Cover My Plastic Surgery After Massive Weight Loss?

And then I think both the ladies in my group stated they were denied multiple times and have had to resubmit, so being the info hoarder I am found this one too:

7 Tips for an Effective Insurance Appeal

I hope to see more of your journey here! Plastic surgery transformations are so interesting/fascinating!

Best of Luck!

I was thinking t probably also depends on how much fat you have in the particular body part you want to operate on. For example, my legs are now at the stage where my thighs wouldn't touch if it weren't for the excess skin, whereas my "bingo wings" still have a bit of fat in them. I will probably try to keep losing until my BMI is at the low end of normal, so that I have a bit of buffer for regain. I expect to be there by the end of summer, so that might be a good time to begin my research.

Also, note that prices vary widely from state to state. It could be that you could save a lot by flying to, say Nevada, even with the a week in a hotel to recuperate.

Great Job! I can't wait to (hopefully) be at that stage in my own journey. I have several friends who have undergone surgery and all have been at different stages so I believe it is up to the surgeon and your personal situation. I went with a friend of mine to a consult and she was in a similar situation as you (very close to her "healthy" BMI range) and the surgeon stated he would actually prefer her NOW since she has somewhat plateaued for 6-7 months at this weight and with plastics, she will be very close to her preferred range to which, she may be very happy with the results and not need to lose any more.

I know there are a ton of articles in the library that pertain to Plastics that I found and will refer to when it's my turn! https://www.obesityhelp.com/articles/category/plastic-surger y-procedure

Good luck! Can't wait to see how your journey progresses!

I have a friend of mine who just had hers done (outer thigh lift) with Dr. Carmina Cardenas in TJ and have had several other friends who have gone to her. She is only 3 weeks post-op, but so far, she looks and feels great. overall she had over 15 pounds of excess skin (360 body lift with Flur De Leis abdominoplasty + outer thigh lift)

if you don't get a response here, check www.realself.com It's a site where patients review doctors. All kinds of doctors, but the majority are plastic surgeons. Many people post before & after pictures, too. I used it (plus this site) to come up with my short list of surgeons - then I did consults with my top three.

I really want to get the extra skin removed so I can feel better about myself. My insurance will cover a tummy tuck at 80% if I meet all these crazy conditions that I dont meet. So I need to pay out of pocket unfortunately. Has anyone used a plastic surgeon that they were very pleased with and the price wasnt crazy high? My arms, thighs and belly need done but belly is first.

I'm in lower michigan if that helps too.

Hi Laura,

Thanks for the reply, I was starting to think I was alone in perfering this option.

I have found 2 people online. Both look amazing, One lady was kind enough to talk me through her journey and she is very pleased with the outcome, also both women did not need any revisions.

I have contacted a number of doctors about it and a few could not understand why I do not want the inner/hidden scar.

This placement appeals to me as i don't mind the scars (never show my legs anyway) and I think it will cut the infection risk massively. Happy to update this thread as i find out more.

One doctor so far has said it is a possibility but for me, it would need to be done in 2 stages and the placement could not be confirmed until the outcome of the lbl. I am still waiting to hear from the others i contacted. I also posted a question to realself but no doctors have answered yet. I have schedualed an appt. with 1 doctor who i think will be very intrested and has massive experience with wws, he is my best hope so keeping my fingers crossed and will update with the outcome.

Thank you i will add Dr. Lomonaco to the enquiry list
