I know your question about a Dexa Scan is for Alese.

Thank you anyway! I have never had one and have an appointment this Friday with my primary care doctor. A new one, as my old doctor moved away. So perfect timing... thanks!! This is a big area of concern for me with my Mom history and having RNY. Although my labs last month that my WLS ordered came back very good and absorbing well.

Hi Alese,

Congratulations on your upcoming 50th Anniversary!!!!

My Mother, age 85, has shrunk from 5 7 down to 5 foot. Her back is curved quite a bit. She has not eaten meat since age 4 (animal lover) and had bad nutrition and eating habits. Not to mention having 6 kids.

Sometimes I feel my back is curving a little, (age 51, but then realize partly it is bad posture not standing straight!) I do stretching exercise on my decline bench to stretch spine out. Suppose to help with this. Put rolled towel under middle back and stretch arms back over my head. Stretch that way for a little bit. Anyway thanks for posting this something that I am concerned about. Keeps me good with vitamins and protein.

I have questioned myself at my age of 51 if I don't bother am too old to pursue PS. Happily married 26 years and with him since 18!! I am almost 10 years from RNY out look good in clothing but at the beach or naked I am self concious. Being Irish and white as a ghost does not help! Recently decided why not? After reading success stories here.

Congrats on on your success!!

Great day to you!

What does your doctor say/advise?

I am not a person of color. I lost something like 99 lbs. I walked, lifted weights and changed the way I ate and still had a flap of skin hanging down from my stomach. My plastic surgeon removed five lbs of skin, called a tummy tuck, 3-4 years ago on St. Patrick's Day. I do not regret the 2-3 weeks I had to deal with the drains. It was worth every bit of the time. Talk to your doctor.

My personal opinion is that you are a candidate for a tummy tuck if it will boost your self-esteem and make you feel better. Personally, I would avoid the medial thigh lift as if my life depended on it because it seems to be the hardest surgery with the most (minor) complications and your legs really look great. BUT, I'm biased because my legs look/looked about like that before my LBL and I was totally fine with them. My LBL did lift them some in the front.

In my case, my stomach skin really impeded my working out. It made my workout clothes fit strangely and it made Yoga difficult. It was hot and sweaty and I would end up with rashes easily. The underwear you have on would never have worked for me because it would have been under my panniculus. I also had enough drooping skin around my butt that I opted for the LBL.

Edited to add: I had a lot of droop/issues with my mons area and that bothered me more than anything else. It rubbed in every pair of pants I wore and made me self-conscious during sex. So that was a big driver for me too and luckily everything seems to where it should be now.

One thought? Start a "future happiness" savings account/fund. Down the road, if you find you really want surgery, use it for that. If instead you decide you are fine with your skin, take a fantastic family vacation or two with it.

PS - I am plannning on surgery. I'm not sure I would be so eager if my stomach and thighs looked as good as yours!
