Topic: RE: Closing the abdomen after a TT or LBL?

I am pretty sure mine was quilt stitched and I still ended up with just 1 drain for 1 week. Swelling is brutal and I still have a man crotch 4 weeks later, so grateful for the drain time I did have.

Topic: Surgery date scheduled!

I am SOOO excited. I decided to go with the first surgeon I consulted with, Dr. Douglas Forman of Bethesda, MD. I have had multiple great interactions with him and his staff. He is also well reviewed on OH, RealSelf, Yelp and the local press, including doing body contouring post-weight loss. I feel very confident with his skill and his professional manner.

I will be having an extended breast lift and extended tummy tuck. We talked about doing the entire lower body at once, but he doesn't like to do that and I am comfortable with his opinion. The surgery is Friday, May 18th and I will stay inpatient for one night. I was unsure that I wanted to stay in the hospital because I can never get any sleep there, but it will be a chance to get more mobile and pain stabilized before going home.

I know that I have seen other folks post lists of necessities but I can't seem to find them in the postings now. If anyone has ideas of things that I need to get before surgery, I'd appreciate a list or PM.

Again, I am SOOO excited even though it means weeks of not being able to swim and run.

Topic: RE: Panniculectomy recovery advice

Good Morning! I had my PS just over a year ago. I would say the best advice I got was to increase my protein intake before and after my surgery (even more than I already was eating). My surgeon was very strict on my activity level after surgery and recommended only walking (only 15 mins at a time to start) for 6 weeks-he says that this helps reduce the swelling. The only part for me that I wasn't really expecting is how long the numbness lasts after-I guess it's very similar to when you have a c-section. Good luck.

I have a wedge that I got when I had my RNY but I'm going to price a recliner to be sure. My wife who would be there at least some of the time (nights particularly) has fibro and back problems so I don't want to be totally dependent on her doing too much lifting.

Yeah, after my RNY (when I was lucid) I got zero sleep...after my LBL and BL, I can't even remember so I assume I was doped up and sleeping!

I didn't need a recliner - I had a large wedge foam pillow that I got on Amazon and my mom (who was staying with me for 5 days after) would circle her arms around me to lift me up if I needed to get out of bed, or help me lay down. The only pain was that darn abdominal muscle tightening!

I believe in trusting red flags and gut feelings! Sometimes the sum of the parts tells you all you need to know.

My surgery is in 18 days. Eek! Luckily, I'm not working right now so I can just take my time recovering. Which is good, because it's hard to get a sense of how long I'll be out of commission.

Good point! They certainly have more control of the staffing and procedures in their own facility. I was thinking of one surgeon in our area who has his own surgery center but I could find no information on his website, RealSelf or elsewhere online that he had privileges at any of the local hospitals that do plastics. That was a big red flag to me and I didn't bother calling for an appointment.

BTW, when is your surgery coming up? Soon isn't it? How long are you planning to be off work?

All of the surgeons I looked at did surgery at a surgery center. I wouldn't make any assumptions about what that means. My surgeon uses a surgery center and has operated at the same one for over 15 years because he trusts his team there and doesn't want to change that. He also has privileges at many top hospitals, so I think it's a team/business decision and definitely not a certification problem.

The recovery center I'm going to after is across the street from a great hospital, but hopefully I won't need their services!

Topic: RE: Plastic surgeon

I traveled to Monterrey Mexico and Dr Sauceda for all my PS. His speciality is WLS patients. I had the works done and am very happy with my results. I even went back in 2013 for an upper body lift.

Dr Sauceda will be Las Vegas in August and will be available for consults on 3rd and 4th.
