How much skin was removed from your procedures?

I'm curious, When you went in for surgery, I'm sure most of you weighed yourself... and based on what your surgeon removed from your procedure(s), how much skin/tissue/fat, etc was removed and what did you have done? I am at about 180 pounds lost from my highest weight and have had several consultations... but haven't taken the plunge yet... I carried most of my weight in my hips, stomach and thighs so those would be my focus areas... Just curious on some realistic expectations.

It depends on if it is just skin being removed or if there is a lot of fat in those areas. I had 2 square feet of skin removed with my lbl but it only weighed 2-3 pounds. For most people, it is around 5-10 pounds.

Really interesting! thank you for responding! I don't know how much needs to be removed but it seems like all my weight is in my stomach/hips and I have exercised, watched my food and nothing seems to go down. I have spoken to my doctor and he may think I have lipedema so I am waiting to be able to make an appointment with a specialist

Skin does not weigh a lot. From all my procedures I had a total of 6.5 lbs of skin removed. My lower body lift was the greatest 4.5. Arms and breast 1lb and legs 1lb. Sometimes they will do liposuction at the same time and that could be additional fat removed.

I had 5 consults before I decided on a surgeon. Keep looking if it isn't quite all coming together. It is all an education and helped me make my decision.

They will show you the best of the best pictures - ask them to show you somebody who looks like you and their results- looks like you in body build/amount of extra skin.

Another VERY good point. I am adding this to my list!

I have had several procedures. I also carry most my weight in my hips, buttocks and thighs (thanks to lipodemia).

Surgery 1 - panniculectomy, brachioplasty, bra line lift. Total removed was 15 lbs of skin, fat and other tissue

Surgery 2 - liposuction to outer thighs, hip wedge incision. Total removed - 12 lbs of skin, fat and other tissue

Surgery 3 - liposuction to front of thighs, extended medial thigh lift. Total removed - 14 lbs of skin, fat and other tissue.

Now here is the kicker - my post-op weight is the same as before. It's actually a pretty common phenomenon. I don't regret the surgeries though! I look pretty good. My body is just stuck at around 200 lbs for some reason I cannot explain.

I will have another surgery later this year - more thigh lipo, outer thigh lift and a breast reduction/lift.

Wait, so having over 40 pounds of excess skin and tissue removed and you aren't 40 pounds lighter? How does that work?! A phenomenon, indeed! I will have to read up on that.

How was your recovery?

I unfortunately didn't ask how much was removed, but I was down about 4 lbs after surgery - which I put back on fairly quickly. He did do some lipo for contouring but said there wasn't much fat there - it was mostly skin.

when you look at pictures, be sure to notice belly buttons. Those are supposedly pretty challenging to get right - so if the surgeon has a lot of pictures with weird-looking belly buttons, you may want to move on to someone else. If they look natural, that's one sign of a skilled plastic surgeon.
