Ab spasms after TT

Hi folks,

I had a TT 5/18 including muscle tightening. Once I was released I started doing regular ab work as part of my exercise routine. My PS said that he tightened the muscles as much as he could but that 30+ years of being MO/SMO had stretched things out and that I may never be "flat."

After a year, my abs are very strong but my upper abs still bulge somewhat and my lower abs are a little poochy. The problem is that even now I can get ab cramps even when I haven't been working out really hard. Sometimes it's almost like a charley horse. Anybody else have this?

Also just wondering if I can ever get muscle separation/definition.

Any thoughts or experience?

I had a panniculectomy Sept 2018. Only a small amount of muscle repair due to a hernia. The muscle spasms like you describe started a few months ago. Yes they feel like a charley horse and they come out of nowhere. Mentioned it to my daughter chorus last week and she was not concerned.

I had a lot of muscle repair and never experienced anything like that. I think it is worth mentioning to a doctor.

Yes. I posted about this awhile ago. I stopped getting them maybe 2-3 months ago and I'm over a year post op. I'm not sure their 100% gone but I haven't done much ab work lately, as I've mostly been running. For awhile I was getting them when I went to the bathroom which was pretty horrible!

Thanks Erin. I know you've done some hard training post PS so I wondered if you ever had this.

Yeah, sometimes it happens when I'm going to the bathroom and it doesn't seem to happen only after hard ab training. In fact post PS I've only worked my abs directly 2-3 days a week, never more than that. I've also not been doing as many exercises or reps/sets as I did at first, so this is really odd to me.

I have my year followup with the surgeon today and it will definitely be on my agenda to discuss.

Let me know what he says because people look at me funny when I ask if it happens to them too!

Sometimes the muscle cramps so bad that it sticks out from my abdomen. Looks a little like a fetus foot kicking out from a pregnant mom's belly!

I'm about 11 years out from my TT and still get them today. Really has nothing to do with exercise in my experience. Just the weird random movement but sometimes when stretching after a workout and would say it's a charley horse.

I spoke to my PS today and he said that the spasms aren't due to overtraining and I can train without concern. He also checked that I don't have a hernia. Apparently the spasming portion of the muscle is just tighter. I guess I won't worry at the moment.

I was worried too and glad that you do not have a hernia.
