Post op tummy tuck.
I'm sure either will work. I used a foam wedge (purchased via Amazon) on the couch and later when transitioning to bed, with a pillow under my knees. I found that quite comfortable. I didn't have a recliner and didn't want to rent/borrow one. Pillows alone without something more substantial might not work as well as a wedge because they might slip.
This is the one I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009HHLBKK/ref=oh_aui_deta ilpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Liz, my wife uses that one and likes it. I bought a foldable one:
and like it better because it folds up and can more easily be stored when I don't want it.

I have a wedge in my bed and lots of pillows that I got when I had my WLS but after talking to others, I decided to get a power-lift recliner. We were going to rent one for a month for about $250 but then I found a decent one on Amazon for only $100 more. I don't know whether I will keep it after recovery but it seemed like a good investment. My wife has back problems and I didn't want to be dependent on her ability to get me out of bed or off the couch every time I had to go to the bathroom. I also hope that it will help me to be more mobile and independent when she returns to work. My surgery is this Friday, 5/18, so I'll know more from personal experience soon.
