My surgery was exactly what you had and it was 10.5 hours. He does a max of 12 hours and that's a normal day for him. I was worried about being under for that long too, but honestly, I felt 1000% better than I did after any surgery I've had before. I woke up hungry, which is NOT how things normally are for me.

Yes, I spent one night inpatient and I'm glad I did. I had to be at Sibley by 5:30am. Surgery was at 7:30am, I wasn't back to my room until around 8pm. They took out my catheter and got me up to walk in the middle of the night sometime. Getting up the first time was literally the worst pain of my life, but it got better each time I did it after that. I can't imagine not working out and having the surgery though because my legs were so weak and I had some pretty awesome muscle tone at the time! They served me breakfast and switched me to oral pain meds. I left the hospital around 12-1pm and slept all the way 'home' (to my friend's house).

Erin,

I meant to ask you what prep workouts did you do to be more prepared for surgery. I have a few months to get ready and want to give myself the best advantage.

I'm not Erin, but I did Pilates :D It's amazing for the core and abdominal muscles.

Also work on building the muscles that are in the areas you'll be relying on for movement. So arms and legs. (Which, I realize, really ends up being "build everything.")

That is good! I always feel like crap after anesthesia. I agree, if 12 HRs is standard, it would be less of a concern
