Hey all you post-PS folks - don't forget the sunscreen - What's your favorite?
I'm sure everyone's Pl Surg has said to use sunscreen to prevent discoloration (darkening) of your scars.
What is your favorite? My PS recommended to use 100SPF, but said there was virtually no difference between 70 SPF and 100SPF. That leaves alot of choices out there.
For my arm lifts (44 inches of scars to protect) I like Neutragenea . It looks like a stick deodorant and is called: UltraSheer face & body stick Broad Spectrum 70 spf. (10-12 at reg drug stores). My scars go from 3 inches below my elbow, up to my armpit and down my chest wall abut 5 inches. So I have alot to treat.
i also like a facial primer, that I layer under an spf foundation, I like Loreal, Revitalift Miracle Blur (30 broad spectrum SPF30).
Reapply often. These are both available at neighborhood pharmacies and maybe Walmart. (I am not getting paid for this, purely a reminder to my WLS community).
Anyone have another favorite?
Sharon
Not ps but my beautiful wife runs our car wash and she has lupus. She uses banana boat kids, spf 50, waterproof. It works wonderfully for her.
I use a variety of Neutrogena sunscreens and I've been happy with all of them. When I'm going to be out in the sun for a long time, I also use a physical protective layer like a long sleeve SPF shirt. (I've done this for years because skin cancer is no joke.)

I think a shirt is a great idea especially the first year post-plastics. Sunscreen is not enough if you are outside for long periods of time. I did not want a dark brown circle around my belly button.
Keeping my incisions away from the sunlight for a year was worth the inconvenience for me.

Definitely. I also think that a lot of people don't know/don't remember that sunscreen isn't a one and done sort of substance. Just because you slather it on when you go out doesn't mean that it lasts 8 hours. The recommendation is to put it on 30 minutes BEFORE sun exposure and then every 2 hours after that. Sweating and swimming can both require more frequent reapplication even for "waterproof" varieties. And, of course, there are still people who don't realize you need to wear it even when it isn't sunny out. :/

Good ideas from everyone, esp the SPF shirts.
Someone said, if you have any sunscreen left in August, then you are not putting it on often enough.
