Using Ice for Upper Body Lift

Hi Everyone:

I am three days postoperative for a upper body lift. Today I was allowed to shower and at 3:00 am with the heat and being itchy, I decided it was time. So I unpeeled all the layers of the dressing that stuck to the incisions and OMG - was the water great.

I needed that shower. My question is did you guys use ice for the inflammation?

I would recommend asking your surgeon before icing - there are lots of different opinions about it and its effectiveness.

In theory, if inflammation isn't causing tissue damage, it's a useful part of the body's healing process so you don't want to do anything to reduce it.

What do you mean "with the heat." Turn the AC to max cool. Sweating is not good - the fluid would rather fill the damaged tissue that work its way to the surface. Opportunistic swelling.

WHen I was recovering, taking a shower was the high point of my day. Esp the first one.

Hope your healing goes well.

My dr said ice was fine but ask yours.

The house was too hot. I will ask my surgeon when I have my appointment on Wednesday making me one week postop.

Thank you.

Are you doing better? I go in for Phas 2 tomorrow.

Thank you everyone. I do use the ice for inflammation and yes it has helped me. I am finally down to where I can fit into my clothes. The vertical torsoplasty had some swelling in the waist and nothing fit.

Right now I have some oozing from one of my drain sites, but that is lessening and hopefully this will just close up like it should. I am 12 days post op and feeling better each day. I just do not have my energy back yet.
