Surgery Booked! Preparing Question

So I have just put down my deposit and am scheduled for a BL/BA with a TT on July 21st! I will be taking two full weeks off work, which I was advised by the surgery coordinator would be sufficient being that I have a desk job, and that I will not need muscle repair along with the TT. It will be done as an outpatient procedure within my surgical group's operating facility (in the office).

It's pretty scary and surreal, but I felt that way with my VSG and now, I've been on the other side for so long that the discomfort feels like a distant memory.

My surgeon's office utilizes a pre and post-op vitamin regimen that is supposed to help decrease swelling and bruising. It's called VitaMedica. Has anyone had experience with this?

I will also be undergoing a 6-week pre-op self-imposed "detox" to ensure I am the healthiest surgery candidate I can be (which for me means really eating on-plan, tons of water, no wine, etc.).

I would be curious to hear what your pre-op instructions were as far as diet and self-care? I know I have some time, but I'm a planner. :)

My dr had me on 100 gms of protein as pre-ps diet. The surgery is long as is the recovery. You will need all your protein, fluids, etc.

Did you do anything special to increase your protein? (I assume that 100g was an increase for you?) I'm still trying to figure out the best way to get the extra protein in as my normal is 60-80g. I'm resistant to adding an extra meal, but I don't have a lot of non-protein foods in my diet to begin with that I could exchange for protein!

I had been targetting 80 gms. So i added a prot shake a day. The 100 cals was not a problem.

For me, I always get fevers after surgery, so deep breathing exercises help greatly- Helps get the lungs stronger and more oxygen into your body. After surgery, do not overdo it- I have a full wrap around TT and it was a good 3-4 days before I could really walk very far other then just around the house- But I could tell the difference pretty fast. We all know our bodies, so just listen to it! :) Its been awhile since my surgery so pre op instructions dont recall. Protein does help- Iron too since you will have blood loss during surgery!

You will need more protein and more calories during recovery.
