I've been my current now for almost 4yrs and I had alot of back problems that hasn't gone away since I lost the weight but the skin would always hang where my back hurt the most now after my second back surgery the brace pushes the skin out so much I don't feel truly supported I have bcbsok they covered my surgery 90% I know there's a clause if it's deemed medically nessessary they will cover some plastics.. I will not do a spinal fusion any suggestions for how I go about getting these should I get one from my spine Doctor, plastic surgeon, and pcp? Also my skin is constantly irratiated at work I deal cards so standing at my table it's pushed up against the table and gets red and pinched all the time..  Saw the surgeon once and he said prob have about 25-35lbs of excess skin but wasn't comfortable writing a recommendation I guess maybe I should get a second opinion

I doubt you have 25-25 pounds of skin, unless you still have a lot of fat attached to it. With my RNY, I lost 200 pounds and only had 5 pounds of skin removed.

Get a second opinion and a third, if necessary. Call your insurance and see if there is a list of doctors on your plan for reconstructive surgery. Plastic surgeons who use insurance should have someone who knows what is required to get their work covered.

Good luck.

Get a second and third  opinion.  Without delay.  Continue to see your PCP for the redness - it might be bacterial.

If you need the skin surgery and ins won't pay for it - you may need to dip into savings or borrow to pay for it.  Not a happy thought, but  it sounds as though you need to take care of it.

There should be a person at the plas sur office that knows the ins approval process and will help you.

I have terrible back and hip pains.  I had 12lbs removed from my abdomen, and just with my mastectomy they removed another 1.5lbs from my back.  What I find is that when I walk I really need to make sure that I watch my posture, running is out of the questions. I only maybe have 2 lbs extra on my back side but when I lay in bed it kind of acts like two tubes on each side, I have to kind of pull them to each side of me or my back will get out of alignment. I also sleep on a very firm mattress, I find than any cushion or memory foam doesn't work.  The only thing I can think of is that the skin weighs less so it kind of floats while my back/spine sinks causing my hip etc to be laying wrong.

It is a constant issue with me and I feel i am in decent shape now but I really have to be careful how I reach down and come back up for things. Bikram Yoga helped A LOT! It teaches you to strengthen and use your core which really helps but with my busy life I have not had time after the 2 latest babies to squeeze it in. Soon! I hope to get back to it.

Good luck!
