I had gsv done in December of 2011 and am scheduled to see cosmetic surgeon next week. My insurance says the cover abdominoplasty, thighs and arms if coded correctly when the request is sent in. Anyone have experience with this insurance Co.?

What insurance company do you have and I think that is fantastic?  Mine came out of pocket.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas.  Blue Cross Blue Shield NJ with my history of rashes said NO.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas

The requirements are supposedly

Lose more than 100 lbs. Or

More than 2 abdominal surgeries or

Panniculus hangs below genitals, or

Mobility restrictions or

Hygiene/rash issues

These are what I was told when I called

If you have documentation from your doctor, then it sounds like you could be in luck. Keep us posted!!

I should have moved to Texas.  Good for you.  Good luck with your research for plastics.

My insurance is BCBS TX also - although I live in Washington State!  I was told the panni would be covered if "deemed medically necessary" and I got word from my surgeons office it was deemed necessary.  I'm just waiting to find out how much out of pocket I'll have to pay.  I also have another consult scheduled for a second opinion so I have apples to apples comparison.  It will depend on the actual plan you have as to how much and what the insurance deems necessary - usually my idea and theirs don't coincide.  I want to only go under the knife one time for this...  LOL!
