Incision wound that opened..

Good morning to everyone.

Two weeks ago I went through my first round of plastic surgery. I had a brachioplasty and Breast lift with augmentation. I've had some slightly set backs from my surgery. My implants are way to high and Dr recommended that I massage them downwards so that the implants can drop to their right place. Massaging them downwards is very uncomfortable even after taking a muscle relaxer. At my 3 post op visit the medical assistant noticed I had a small wound opening underneath my armpit. She said,"don't worry this happens all the time. Let me tell you that the incision site will open more within the next days but don't worry. Let me show you how you care for this. " She said to get a clean gaze and pour saline water and then squeeze the excess  water. Apply the damp gauze over the opened wound, cover it up with a clean gauze and then apply tape. This must be done every 12 hours. My question is has anyone experienced anything like this? How did you care for you surgical open wound?

Hi!

I had an anchor TT and I had an opening at my T (pubic area) I was GROSS and MESSED with my mind. But it does happen, and mine was deep, I had to take gauze with saline and pack it, then put polysporin another clean gauze and tape to seal.

I got really paranoid about it, I had to take all the stuff off, shower then start the process it was mentally very challenging but it does happen and frequently to patients so rest assured it is well I guess normal...

I just saw my doc for my 4-week post-op last week.  He opened up a small, pimple looking area on my LBL incision line right over my mons area.  It's now about 1/4" or so wide.  I have to take a cotton application, put on Silvadene creme and gently shove it into the hole, put gauze over the top and tape it down.  I do this twice a day.

He says these things have to heal from the inside out so it's a slooooow process.  And in the meantime you have to be alert for signs of seroma or abscess.  My doctor also said it's very, very common.

I'm the queen of wounds opening, but for me at least it comes with the territory. I've had upper and lower lift, arms, back, boobs, rear end. Doing face next week.  Thighs and any revisions needed this winter.

I had to go to a wound specialist, and then go to a PT for my wounds. None were huge, but they were most definitely annoying and long lasting.

Wet to dry is the first defense. If that doesn't work fast enough (a few weeks) I suggest bringing out the big guns including santynl and/or silver based products. I've also had pulsed water therapy and electric current therapy.

Good luck to you.

P.S. My surgeon was top notch and I'd do it all a thousand times over.

I had a small opening at the top of my tailbone after the LBL.  I never really saw it, but I felt it.  They just had me put bacitracin on it and cover with gauze.  It closed on its own.

I'd watch the opening in the armpit.  That's delicate skin and it's subject to a lot of tension.

I have had 2 rounds of plastic surgery & I have had wounds both times. They need to heal from the inside out. I do advise as ALL DR's do things differently please take the advice from the Dr. That did your surgery, not other Dr's or other people. I can show you photos and directions on how to care for you wound as we had the same Dr. My wounds were DEEP! I am the queen of minor complication. Minor complications are normal,      major complications are not as common.

Thank you to those that replied to my post. I was in a panic mode when I seen the flesh wounds but now I know it will take time to heal. I Will continue to do the wet to dry dressings.

Special thanks to "Janina" for being so awesome and supportive through this journey.

That part of a brachioplasty incision breaks down a little frequently from normal motion or from small fluid collections. The good part of a small break down is that it kind of prevents seroma from being it's own passive drain of sorts. The scars from these areas end up looking pretty good in most instances. As long as it's not continuing to spread down the arm you should be in good shape
