planning ahead for a tummy tuck with muscle tightening.  Was originally planning for late winter but going to have to put off a bit.  Issue is I am planning on running a half marathon next February (2015) and will be in training from this summer on.   Can I really not run for 6 weeks? or even jog?

Thanks!

Yes -- I would follow this advice.  Even at the 8/9 week mark running felt very odd.  If you workout too soon you are opening yourself up to much higher risk of complications (THEY ARE NOT FUN!)

After you are recovered your running endurance / speed does come back relatively quickly.  I have been back running about a week and a half and I am already back up to the same distance -- now to just get my speed back.  :)

No way.  I couldn't run comfortably for 12 weeks.

I am still swelling after exercising at 4.5 months.

I was fully cleared for all activity at 8 weeks. That was after a full tummy tuck and boob job (working up slowly) I did jog and was back to 3 miles at 10 weeks but I left my binders on. I am now just over 4 months out and I workout just as hard and just as much as I ever did. I still swell sometimes but I put my compression garment on if I have to.  Mind you I was cleared by my surgeon and I followed his instructions to the T!  I make common sense decisions as far as when I need my binders or compression garment. All in all I am back to normal.  I do find after the boob job I still have problems with pushups. I am still on my knees for those.  But I do hike, climb, run, jog, yoga, weights, I do it all! I had surgery on August 26 of 2014

Six weeks is very little time. Don't take any risks as it may result in serious complications. Consult your surgeon, only he can guide you properly.
