has anyone gotten pregnant after a tummy tuck?
i'm in this ****ty place right now where i've worked my ass off to get to the point where i can have the panniculectomy but my doc suggests a full tummy tuck bc my upper stomach is so stretched out. hey i would love to get the whole thing done. he says that getting pregnant won't ruin the work but every other doctor i've heard from online says yes it will. so now i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. bc i've spend all year working on myself and improving myself inside and out and my husband and i decided we weren't gonna try for kids till the end of NEXT year. so next year was supposed to be my year to really live life and enjoy my new body before starting this whole motherhood thing again. the thought of suffering with this pannus for another year is unacceptable. but i don't want to have to have 2 surgeries. and also i know if i just get the bottom done it will be a let down bc the top still sticks out. :/ i guess i was just wondering if anyone has been through this and what their outcome was.
From the little I know about tt, yes pregnancy will mess up your plastics. Discuss this with a plastics surgeon, I think that's the best place to get your concerns answered.
It depends on what you mean by "mess up" - I mean... if you gain an appropriate amount of weight (20, 25, 30 lbs depending on starting weight) then you should be fine. Will you look exactly the way you did after the TT once you give birth? Who knows... it's possible.... or it's possible you'll have the same kind of "pooch" that other women have once they've had a baby.
I was willing to take the chance - I haven't had kids yet and had my arms, breasts, and lower body done. There's no damage that could happen from pregnancy that would compare to the damage I had after losing all the weight! My plastic surgeon said the same thing as what I did above.
I knew I wouldn't have the extra money or "down time" to have plastics after children... so I made the decision to not wait. It's just one of those things you have to decide for yourself and what is best for you, you know?

Thanks so much for your response. i didn't gain that much weight with my first pregnancy (post wls). 30lbs. which isn't that bad considering i didn't work out and ate whatever i wanted. but the 2nd time around will be diff since i'm exercising regularly (have been all year) and dieting. so i know i shouldn't gain as much as last time.
"There's no damage that could happen from pregnancy that would compare to the damage I had after losing all the weight!" i love this. it really puts things in perspective and i feel the same way. i've had more damage done from obesity than from pregnancy. i never really cared about being perfect of having a flat stomach. i just wanna look normal and proportionate. starting from zero and having some stretch is better than walking around like a ball of fat and excess tissue. i waited 3 yrs to get plastics because i wanted to wait till after i had a kid. i wanted to enjoy a pregnancy and i wanted my belly to get big and round (i heard after TT you don't show much) and thats actually the main reason i waited. but now i've spent all year working my ass off to get back to pre-pregnancy weight and i plan to lose 20 more lbs after that. my husband and i decided to wait another year (dec 2015) to start trying for another kid. so i'm going to enjoy all next year and work on myself more and enjoy my new body. i REFUSE to suffer with this giant pannus for one more year. so for sure at the least i will have that removed. but we'll see what the doctors say. i'm going for a few more consultations. i guess it just becomes a personal choice.
honestly i don't see myself going back to do the rest of my stomach. i'm not a fan of surgery. its kind of a one time deal. i think i would like to have the whole thing done and deal with whatever is left. the thing i'm worried about is the actual pregnancy and the pain or discomfort that may come from having had the TT. again its something i'll just have to weigh and see whats more important to me. a rock and a hard place though.
thanks again for your response.

It really depends on how much weight you would gain during pregnancy as well as how much your tummy would stretch. A guide would be what happened with your other pregnancy.

during my first pregnancy my sides got narrower and my stomach protruded more. but mostly i just looked fat (bc of all the excess skin and tissue) more than i looked pregnant until the last couple of months. i'm petite 5'0 so i'm sure there will be stretching and i'll probably end up with a pooch. but i think i would rather live with the pooch than live with my current stomach for another 2 yrs.
dr. are there cir****tances in which you would advise a full TT even though the patient wants to have more children?
