What are the pros and reasons behind surgery?

My name is Lauren Heno and I am a student at Portsmouth University in England. For my final year dissertation I am looking into the portrayal of surgery in the press and comparing it to the reality. I am writing this post to see if anyone who has had, or is considering surgery, would be happy to answer a few questions as to why they want surgery, the affect it will have on their lifestyle, and their opinions on how it is written about in the press.
