Good luck to you, here are something's you may want to consider:
- Get a female urinal. Like 15 bucks on Amazon. Sounds silly but the toilet can seem so very low to the ground when you have issues squatting.
- Be prepared for some gnarly looking scars. This is an emotional aspect and looking down and seeing the scars can be shocking. They DO get better! but the first couple of weeks can look hideous.
- Pain. There will be some. And more than a LBL, boobies or arms (in my opinion)
- take care of yourself and give yourself time to heal. Obvious, sure but a message worth hearing again
- you won't wake up with supermodel legs (dammit!). They will look better than going in of course, but sadly I didn't come out of surgery with catwalk worthy stems. ;-)
- get pillows to raise your legs when sleeping or relaxing on the couch. Makes things mor comfy
- compression garments by Merena are a God send and worth the money. Consider gettin one that goes to mid calf
- i am about 5 months out and still get swelling. Humidity makes it worse. Can be painful, especially around the feet and ankles. There have been time my toes felt like they would split open. Ouch
i just had my arms and boobies done yesterday, legs in March and a LBL last summer. The legs are rough, not trying to scare or worry you but be prepared for all sorts of emotions that come along with the scars and pain. It passes. Promise.
Best of luck!
Congrats on your next step.
I had my legs done in May and I can't agree more with the female urinal! It helped out so much and saved many painful movements squatting down to the toilet. The scars are my biggest issue. Mine are from groin to knee. Even at 3 months they are still red/purple. But I have been using Mederma for them and it is slowly showing some whitened areas. I am still wearing my compression thigh high stockings since my Dr. wanted me in them until the end of summer. (Except for workouts). It can be a bother but I am happy with the way they look. I am assuming the tight stockings are making sure the swelling doesn't cause any problems or stretching. I would also recommend taking walks immediately. I downloaded a pedometer to my iPhone to measure each day. With pain meds I was up to 2000 steps right after surgery. After meds was a different story; I was lucky to get 400! My mistake to take it too far too fast in the beginning. Just listen to your body it will let you know. Pillows for under your legs are excellent even when sleeping. I put the pillows under the mattress to help incline the bed. When I had the pillow under my legs directly, my feet would hang over the edge of the pillow and I would wake up in the middle of the night with my heels going numb with the pressure of them against the mattress.
I am excited to say that immediately after surgery (the next day) I measured my thighs and they were 1 inch smaller! That was with the swelling. Now they are measuring 4 inches smaller! I am so excited when I see my reflection with thinner type pants on. When I walk they don't jiggle and you can actually see my muscles pop out when I run. I was cleared to run after 8 weeks and even though my legs felt weird I was able to complete a 5K right off the bat. As of now, I am able to run up to 10 miles! You won't feel like it at first, but the pain will go away within the first 2-3 weeks.
Good luck and fingers crossed for a smooth surgery and easy aftercare.

What everyone else said, except I had no exceptional pain. It was sore. At times it hurt. But I was off pain meds and back at work in under 2 weeks. I wasn't taking normal sized steps, but otherwise fully functional.
And, yes, very gnarly looking scars and they take a lot longer to settle down than expected. I've *****ed at my surgeon and he reminded me that he told me it would be a full year on this one before results could really be judged. They're getting better, but taking their own sweet time doing it.
Best of luck!
