Ah the nerves. I have this real need to be in control so my brain is going in circles for things to buy and things to put in my "nest" for recovery.  Anybody got any suggestions?  Here's my plan and current acquisitions:

  1. Toilet riser
  2. Walker
  3. Shower seat
  4. Protein drinks
  5. Juven
  6. Grabber
  7. Pillows for recliner
  8. power station for mini laptop/tablet/phone/remote charger
  9. weekly drug holder
  10. Colace
  11. Miralax
  12. Silicon sheet belt (for later)
  13. Snacks (jerky, nuts)
  14. Sports drink (recommended by doctor - going with zero cal of course).
  15. Tshirt for under compression garb
  16. compression garb (furnished by doctor at time of surgery - 2 sets)
  17. Really tight underwear (recommended for men from my surgeon's office)
  18. Helper for my wife for the weekend (Thanks Jen)
  19. Creams for my scars and new belly button antibiotics.
  20. Antibiotic soap.

What else do I need?!?

Good luck next week!  Just a guess here but I'm guessing your PS recommends the tight BVD's for  compression to control any possible swelling by the "boys" than showing off your junk?

You are correct Don.  I'm hearing "black grapefruit" and "softball" terms being thrown about.

Yes, the "boys" are probably gonna get swollen!

Has your surgeon told you what your immediate post-op needs are for wound care?  For example, my surgeon has us change the dressings twice a day and he prefers Telfa gauze and the application of Bacitracin (antibiotic ointment).  To find the Telfa, I had to go to hospital pharmacies.  It wasn't carried at the regular pharmacies.  Ultimately I ordered it online.  If he has any special recommendations, get it now!  Have you gotten your prescriptions for your pain meds yet?  Otherwise, I think you're covered!

I was told that they are using Steri-strips and nothing would be required for the main incision for the first two weeks.  Belly button will require some antibacterial stuff tho.  I do have my prescriptions... do not pass go, do not leave pain meds until last! Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Unscented maxi pads from the dollar store. Even with steri-strips there may be oozing. Plus the cushioning against the binder was nice. Also, I cut slits in them and positioned them around the drains. There may be oozing there, too.
