Clothing for after abdominoplasty - question
Hi everyone, I've been wondering about something. If you've had an abdominoplasty, did your pants size change afterward? I'm in desperate need of new pants but don't want to do much shopping now if my size will change in a couple months. (My abdominoplasty is scheduled for May 20.) I AM going to pick up some slightly large sweat pants and pj-type pants to wear during recovery but think maybe I should wait until after my surgery to do more filling in of the wardrobe. Thoughts please? Thank you!
I had a LBL 4 months ago. For the first month or so, yoga & pj pants were the most comfortable thing to wear. I couldn't stand the feeling of any seams near my incisions, so back seams & pockets were out for awhile. I was so swollen at the beginning, that I bought a size up. It was a good month or so before I could wear my pre-surgery work pants. I was mostly in 12's. Now I'm in 8-10's and some of those are starting to get loose, but the 6's are too tight still. I am trying to not buy too much, only enough to just get by for now. I still have quite a bit of swelling and the doctor says I will be smaller once that goes away. From everything I've read, swelling can continue for a year or so. It's hard to be patient, but I'm trying! Dresses/skirts are a good option to get some extended time out of a size.
Depends. Larger people with more weight around the middle tend to go down more in size. Smaller people tend to stay around the same size. I was a 6 pre-plastics and am still a 6.

You may want to get yourself some simple tshirt type dresses. Putting pants on, while not impossible, can be a little difficult right after. They came in very handy when going to the doctors or even going for little walks outside after to get the blood flowing.
As far as sizing goes, before my lower body lift, I was in as a size 10 jeans and came out as a size 4. Size 12 dress pants, to a size 8. So shop only a little now, you just don't know what the outcome will be.
Good ode luck to you
Down 1/2 to 3/4 of a size. For sure prior to the TT I could not button a size 10- and now I can squeeze in them. Size 12 is now loose in the waist, and it was pretty snug prior. If the mons area settles down a size 10 may be viable, but too tight for comfort.

Thanks everyone! It's definitely helpful to see all these comments. I might buy a new pair of pants or two prior--my date appears to be shifting. At the moment it's now a week later on May 27th. Since the 20th isn't do-able for both surgeons, I'm hoping I might get an earlier date but if not, I'll take what I can get. I'd really like to run the Spartan Fenway in November and every week counts between surgery and then for being able to train at all. Meanwhile, I will focus on picking up a few items for post-surgery--elastic or tie-waist pants and shorts, easy pull-over tops, and casual dresses and a summer-weight bathrobe/housecoat thing. Will figure out work-style pants when it's closer to me having to go back to work. :)
