Things to do in Monterrey, Mexico

Dr. S penciled me down for 3/4/14,and now I just need to get plane tic to confirm the dates with him. I am thinking about arriving a couple of days earlier to play tourists before surgery. Have anyone done this before? Is this a good idea or is Monterrey really boring? 

I'm sure I have no idea what's in Monterrey these days, but your post sparked a memory of the place, go**** must be 32 years ago-  September and the Monarch butterfly migration was in full bloom there- literally millions of them in the air, on the streets, on everything- freaking fantastic.  Went with a friend, fell in love there...blah, blah....(sigh- youth-silliness...).  Thank you for the nostalgic smile.  Enjoy your stay, and may you have an uneventful procedure, and heal well.  Bonnie

I went 3 days early on my last visit.  I went to the Paseo Santa Lucia River Walk for a long afternoon, and I went out to Grutas De Garcia (Caverns).  It's an hour out of town.  The hotel helped me hire a taxi to take me.  I posted about my trip 1/17/2013.  There are pics in the photo section in Dr Sauceda's group.  Mountains and desert.  I thought MTY was beautiful.  The caverns are easier before surgery.  Lots of walking through the caves, big steps.  You can click on Dr Sauceda in my siggy line.
