did your surgeon have you wear an abdominal binder after surgery?

Yes for about 2 weeks.  I guess it helps with the swelling.      debbie

Binder instructions for me (anchor-cut TT):  24 hrs a day except while it was laundered for 3 weeks, then while I was up and around for another 3 weeks.  I'm cleared to burn it if I want to, but, strangely enough, we've come to like each other and I still wear it to work most days.  Weird, I know--Next to the drains, the compression garment was the thing I thought I wanted to get rid of. Hmmmm.  Go figure.

Six weeks - and then I had slough to gangrene and dehiscence so my binder was on for longer AFTER debridement and seven weeks with Wound Vac (I think six weeks longer). Mt panni (insurance wrote TT only because writing was easier than the code) was 8/08/11 but complications hospitalization was 12/09/11 and I ruins I was released after Wound Vac on 26/10/11; six weeks with binder.
Tip:wear a t-shirt against your body and then the binder to help against chafing.

I wore this after my lower body lift:

And, yes, it becomes like a security blanket - you get to a point where you're more comfortable with it on than off.

How many did you buy? I'm guessing you need at least two to swap them out for washing?

Every day is better than the day before...and it was a pretty great day!

One was included in the cost of surgery.  The doc put me in it while I was still on the table.  I bought another one (same size) online after the fact because I was tired of waiting for the first one to dry after cleaning.  I probably could have managed with just one.  Two was more convenient.  And they really didn't get that dirty or stained.  The incision line was bandaged and wasn't leaking.  There was some leaking from where the drains were, but it was minor.  So washing it out wasn't a daily thing.

I agree with the others - it is like a security blanket.  When I transitioned off from it, I wore spanx.  I wore mine a lot longer than I had to also, it does help with the swelling.

Dr had told me to wear it during the day and take it off at night (after about 5 weeks).  I ended up wearing it the opposite - just because I seemed to swell up more at night.  Worked for me!

I had a TT with muscle tightening on 18 Dec. I am now 5 weeks out and still wearing the binder, except during the night. As weird as it may sound you do become friends. I will be wearing this until at least 13 Feb when I see the doctor again. But I was told even after this it would be wise to wear during workouts for a bit.

It is cumbersome in the beginning, but then it really does become a second skin and you don't notice it.
