Special diet befor surgery?
I would like to know if you we're required to be on a special diet the week before surgery?
For exactly one week before surgery. A full liquid diet. High protein low in sugar. A trivia , ( muscle milk, protein drinks/ smoothies about 6-8! Times a day.
3 days prior to surgery ,drink dieter tea, Seneca, smooth move at night.
two days prior to surgery ,drink 3-4 liter of water
if necessary ,patient may implement lean protein( beef liver, chicken breast, and baked fish) and/ or spinach up until 3 days prior to surgery date, unless otherwise specified.
continue 7 days after surgery unless otherwise specified.
anyone else on this type of diet before surgery???
Nope. I think it was just the standard no eating or drinking after midnight (I was the first surgery in the morning). High protein makes sense. Being fully hydrated makes sense. I don't know why the full liquids except that constipation is a real problem after surgery, and your doc may be trying to avoid that issue. He's obviously aware of it - Seneca and Smooth Move tea are to avoid constipation.
After surgery, again, loading on proteins and liquids makes perfect sense, but I still don't see the purpose of full liquids.
two days liquid diet required prior to my surgery.....sounds like surgeon wants to clean you out?! The rationale given for the two days is that he can pull the TT tighter if there is no material in the colon.....plus your bowels quit for a few days pot surgery ...better to have them quit empty than full.....
