Taking 2 stool softener a night helped me. I did also have to take a laxative a couple of times too. It was 8 or 9 days for my 1st time.  Things much better since i upped the stool softener to 2 from previously 1.

will be having plastics early Jan. I am already planning 4 stool softeners a night plus a cap full of Miralax every night. I get constipated VERY easily and there is not going to be any straining for me if I can help it.

also, fwiw,I would tell my DH to get over having a stool in the bathroom. If i needed it I would have it,but that is just me.

The stool really seemed like a deal breaker for him. He's fine about most things in life but he was really against the stool for some reason IDK.

Ikea tea lights - I have a box of 100 of them in the bathroom and I think it's the perfect height.  I suspect I still would've found the 7" squatty potty too high... so next time the moment calls I'll see how the tealight box works for me ;-)

A step in the bathroom to help out actually makes sense. We use the same muscles to poo as we use to use to give birth. What is a big thing they do to help birth mother? They lift the knees up so that the angle is the same as a person using some sort of a step in the bathroom. Not that ANY body would want to pass a bm of the same size, goodness no. But the angle is the same and the muscles used are the same. So it could help. If hubby is against having something in the bathroom, you could always keep a light plastic one close to the bathroom where you can easily grab it on the way.

Go to the squattypotty site and order one.  It is attractive, fits neatly around the toilet when not in use and solves your problem neatly.  It has made a big change in my life.  I also take their colon formula and use their spray.  It makes the whole process much more pleasant for me.

When your husband sees this, I don't think he will object.  Our western posture of sitting instead of squatting causes poor elimination for all of us.  Most people are more full of sh*t than they realize.

DH made me return the squatty potty as he didn't like the look of it. Admittedly it was the 9" one and I didn't get on with it. Maybe the 7" one would've been OK but he wouldn't let me try, so laxatives it is ;-)
