Anyone in my age group? (Im 28)
Posted in my surgery forum, but thought maybe this would yeild better results.
I know a lot of people who go through with surgery are much older than I am, and I value your experience and support so much!! But I was wondering if there was anyone else here who had bariatric surgery and was close to my age? Just wondering about the likely hood of loose skin, and how bad it will be after words. I know when I lost weight before with the Lapband, I didn't really have any loose skin. Some on my stomach, and my upper arms, but other than that...I was pretty good. Hoping now, 6 years later it will be pretty much the same. But skin is different at 22 than it is at 28, haha. I am really worried about loose skin.
I am 28 and had surgery when I was 27 (just before 28th birthday).
Age can definitely improve the loose skin situation, but it also depends on the weight you started at, how long you've been obese, and genetics.
While I do have loose skin, I will say that I was expecting it to be much worse considering I was 270 lbs overweight. Now, I do have 60 lbs to go until goal, so things could change. I think I've gotten away with it being not as bad as it could've been. I have seen pictures of people that had starting weights MUCH less than mine that had far worse skin.
However, I certainly don't look normal. I will be getting plastics at some point. I do not think I can spend the rest of my life (which will hopefully be a long one!) with this very obvious reminder of being 444 lbs!

I looked through your photos, and you look amazing! You look normal...not over weight at all. I would have said you were under 200 by looking at your recent photos!
My issue is...I am going through a divorce. I met someone very soon after I filed, but we are taking things very slow. Still I have strong feelings for him, and I can see it getting serious. I just don't know how I am going to look after. I know its vanity...but having tons of extra skin would be a serious self esteem issue for me.
If you dont mind me asking....where do you have the most extra skin? I have had a c-section, so I know my stomach will never be gorgeous, lol....but I am scared of it being really bad. I worry about my arms and thighs too.
Thank you for the compliment! I'm currently at 230, so to hear I look under 200 is very exciting lol! I think the fact that I'm almost 5'10 and have always carried weight evenly works to my advantage.
I think in the end, my stomach is going to be the worst. But, to be honest.. it's still got a decent amount of fat still in it so it doesn't look like excess skin...just looks like I'm still heavy! I also invest in a lot of shapewear that smooths out my lumpy stomach lol... My arms are another story... my arms are the arms of a normal sized or even a thin person if you pull back the hanging skin and look at them lol. They are definitely noticeable.
I'm never going to have a 28 year old body... but what I do know is that hanging skin or scars from surgery are FAR better than having all of this skin filled with fat.

i had my rny at 24, i'll be 28 at the end of this month and had my tummy tuck in june. the 7.5 pounds of skin the surgeon removed made me very uncomfortable around men. yes, my body is still nowhere near perfect and i could use quite a bit more of plastics, but this is where i'll be for now and i feel a lot better in my skin now than i did 6 months ago
