Still have drain in almost 3 weeks post TT

I was wondering how long folks had their drain(s) in post tummy tuck.  I'm almost three weeks out, and still have one of the two in, and am still accumulating too much fluid to have it removed.  I love the results of the TT, but the drainage is discouraging.  Any others with this experience?  PS  Had a breast lift too.  I would do both surgeries again.  The results are great.  I just want this drain out!

Sorry I did not have any drains with my tummy tuck.  Most do.

I had a breast lift 13yrs ago and it was the best thing ever! I could use some implants now LOL but at least they still point forward, just small.

Hearing all these complaints about drains makes me wonder why some doctors do and some doctors don't use progressive tension suturing.  I had no drains and no problems from it at all.  Had abdominoplasty August 2.  The surgeon reattached the lifted skin and fat layer to the ab muscles thus eliminating any space for fluid to build up.  Ta da, no drains.  So sorry for your irritation, hopefully it will be removed soon.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

This is why I had no drains too.  I didn't remember the name.  Thanks  I'll try to remember that "progressive tension suturing"

I wish I had known about the post suturing thing mentioned. I am 10 days post from my TT & breast lift/implants. I had 2 drains, 1 each hip and they are still in. I saw Dr last Wednesday and at that time was still getting a LOT of fluid. He said it should be down to at least 30 total in a 24 hr period and I am still getting about 50-60. I go back we'd and praying they can come out because I go back to work the following Monday and can't imagine dressing with these.

My Dr. also said less than 30 cc for 2 days in a row, and they can take out the drain.  They took out one of the two drains seven days post-op, and he said that sometimes when you take out one, the one left compensates for the other.  That seems to be what's happened.  My fluid is more clear/yellowish then red now - but keeps hovering between 30 - 50 and I need to wait until it's under 30 for two days in a row.  Seems like if you take them out early, the consequences aren't good (fluid accumulates under skin and it has to be aspirated out with a needle).  I was going to go back to work this week (after 3 weeks off), but with the drain still in, and just feeling like I'm still healing, I'm taking another week off (I'm fortunate I can do so).  They told me in the Dr.'s office not too move much - and that should reduce the fluid output.  For me, I haven't been moving much.  Yes, I drive and pick up my son from school, and cook his dinner, do dishes, and laundry - but for me that is not much at all.  Other than those essentials, I'm mostly sitting and reading/watching t.v./typing.  For me, to be still totally, would drive me up a wall.  When I go back to wor****rtainly will be moving a heck of a lot more.  I, like you, dread the thought of going back to work with a drain in.  Do you like the results of the surgeries at least?  I'd imagine the drains will come out eventually.  I had a tummy my entire life and I'm figuring that this is my stomach's way of rebelling..  My tummy skin cells are saying..  "Where do we go?  We've never had to move someplace that gave you a flat tummy before?"  Good luck and keep me posted!

I love my new tummy as I have never had a small one before and still swollen but I know it will come down.. The dr scared me at my 1 wk visit saying he was shocked I had loose skin on upper part of belly. He said it was super tight when he sewed me shut.  I will wait and see and not worry about it now.  I took 2 1/2 weeks off from work and work retail so that is long enough coming into our busy season.  My left drain is clear to yellowish but right one (side I had a ton of swelling on) is still a reddy brownish disgusting color.  I am not driving at all yet and don't think I will for a few more days.  You sound way more active than I have been.  I have gone out to grocery store a few times but worn out afterwards. I like the sound of the drains more than needle to aspirated.  Eecckk

I had mine for 4 weeks and they were still draining nearly 80 a day! I thought I would have to get poked and they poked me once (it did not hurt) and nothing so my body kind of needed them out to adjust on its own I think. Good luck!

Oh I had a Anchor cut TT

I had my last one (startled with four) for 4 weeks. My PS basically took one out a week. I was still getting some drainage but it had reduced to 10 a day. I didn't have that much drainage though, even the first week. Hated the drains but I think they helped with minimizing the swelling. I had hardly any swelling around my LBL but I had TONS on my inner thighs (no drains there) from the lipo.  My thighs hurt way more than my LBL.

Good luck to you and hang in there
