Gained about 13 lbs. 6 days post TT/Panni

Is it normal for my weight to be up 13lbs.??  Six days ago, I had a tummy tuck and panniculectomy. Is it swelling? Should I eat less as  I am not exercising, right now? I am not eating MORE than I was before surgery. In January 2012, I had a sleeve gastrectomy, so eat small portions of lean protein and low carb veggies and little else.

Your body is swelling from all the trauma that it has gone through.  Get off the scales and don't weigh for a few weeks and let your body heal.  This will subside but it will take weeks, sometimes months.  Keep eating good proteins and what your sodium intake, you will be fine.

Thank you for the reassurance. I wasn't worried about the weight.......... till yesterday. Went to a post-op check, and the nurse weighed me. Then came back in the room, kind of freaked that I had gained weight, since last week. Surgeon says that is to be expected and apologized because she said she only looked a numbers and NOT who the patient was.  I'm just hoping that I am not gaining ACTUAL weight, and wondering how much gain is normal from swelling.

My PS does not even own a scale and does not weigh you.  I don't think anyone should weigh until about 4 weeks out.  Your body is going through a large amount of changes and it needs to settle back down.  I increased my calories, protein forward for about 6 weeks after surgery.  I did not lose any weigh after surgery but my clothes are all lose and my body is really firm in all the right places and I healed wonderfully which was the best of all!

Definitely swelling and water retention.  Your skin is trying to re-adhere to the fascia, and lots of water is used in the process.  Just make sure you're getting in all your fluids and you may want to up your protein for healing.

thank you, that's what I was thinking. have been upping protein, too. I know that helps with healing.

Yes, totally normal.  The way my plastic surgeon described it to me was ... Although I had lost the weight the fat cells are still there and fill with fluid very easily.  I had serious swelling and by the end of the first week I had to wear compression hosiery it was so bad. Gained about 20 pounds. I probably went back to work too soon and that didnt help at all.

It took me over a month before I started to love my new body. No regrets since that time and I'd do it over again if I had to

Glad it isn't just me. I had my tummy tuck, lipo, and breast lift w/implants 7 days ago and have gained 7 lbs.  dr today told me from swelling and to stay off the scale for a few more weeks but could take up to  3-6 months to lose the swelling.  I am a daily weigher so hubby said he is stealing my scale.

Great idea to steal the scale for a couple weeks at least. Plastics are a very emotional experience and the scale doesn't help at all. I had mind four years ago but I still rember the physical pain of healing and swelling and drains and emotions that go along with all if it. Scale doesn't help but I also know it's easier said than done.

I think the emotional part is true and I am so glad you brought it up.  I have been trying to keep it in check but sometimes I am hormonal from it.
