Extended Abdominoplasty Oct. 9th
I am scheduled for my extended tummy tuck on October 9th and just like before I had my RNY I am getting anxious when thinking about going under and not waking up. I know it's silly but I have a week and a half to go and know it will bother me until I wake up after surgery. Did anyone else experience this? I guess it boils down to some fears of death and the unknown.
Also, I do not have a recliner at home so I won't be able to sleep in one, I will have to use my bed. I plan on using pillows and a body pillow to help me. I am a stomach sleeper all night, so it will be hard enough for me to sleep on my back as it is. Was anyone else a stomach sleeper before?
I am nervous but so very excited as I can't wait to get this skin, (that looks like it was stuck to my middle with velcro and doe not match the rest of my body) off!!

I have scheduled for the end of November this year for some revisions and a back lift...."crazy" has returned a little. Obsessive cleaning mostly for now. We will see what else as the time gets closer.
Good luck! This will all be worth it when you wake up and are on the road to recovery.
I didn't have a recliner either. I used a chair and footstool and made out quite nicely with that. And lots of pillows! Good luck, everything will be fine.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
Good Luck to You! You will be just fine. We all go through that feeling of what if. I had a recliner and it was wonderful for me. I rented one from Rent-a-Center. Have you checked to see if you have something like that in your area that you could rent? I know the chair made my life so much easier and I slept in it for 3 weeks quite comfortably.
We do have one here and I never thought of that! I will give my bed a try and if it doesn't work out I will def. look into that! Thanks for the idea!

I used my mothers adjustable bed. The nice thing about having it was that I was independent after 3 days. I did not need any help getting in or out of bed. If you are not going to have someone with you 24/7, you may want to look into renting a recliner.

I have those feelings before every surgery. We are all told the risks of surgery and I think that's what sets me off worrying. Thankfully there are far more successful surgeries than not. Remember this. You will do fine and when you wake up you will sigh in relief and move forward.
I had an extended fleur-dis-lis TT on June 20th of this year. For me, there was no way I could lie in a bed, even with a ton of pillows. I have a hated recliner in our living room that I basically lived in for three weeks. I am so thankful that I had it. Every morning I would slowly get my husband to lower me onto our bed and then he would truss me up in my binder and I needed him to pull me up too otherwise I wouldn't have been able to get up. It's surprising what you need stomach muscles for. Even turning sideways hurt, and trying to roll off the bed was hard, and put pressure on my incision. I was also hunched over for about 4 weeks when I stood so to have that bend that a recliner provides really helped me out. I napped numerous times a day and would have needed assistance from someone if I had to get in and out of a bed all the time. That pulling feeling and fear of opening up the incision was with me for a LONG time. I am now over 3 months out and I still have occassional pain. I still can't lie on my stomach for long without becoming uncomfortable. I am a side and back sleeper so thankfully now have no problems in a bed.
Some people can do fine with a bed, but for me, not a chance. Good luck and try to relax!
