Plastic Surgery Insurance Question

I have just found out that my insurance will no longer be accepted at the hospital at which I just have my RNY. I can still receive services through my Surgeon through his personal office, but if I have to have any procedures at the hospital, I have to pay out of network costs or I have to change insurance companies.

SO my question is, what insurances have seemed to cover plastic surgery post WLS? I am more than likely going to need a panniculectomy. So, if I have to change, and I know I'm going to need this procedure, then I might as well make a choice that would most likely lead me to my end goal, right??

I'd appreciate any advice. I currently have Medicare and it's the extra Plan B and D part that is not being accepted anymore - UnitedHealthcare AARP. Oh, and open enrollment is October.

It's tougher to find a Plastic Surgeon that will accept insurance than it is to find insurances that cover plastic surgery.

I have AARP-UHC, and I've found that to be the case.

My suirgery is gong to be covered, but I had to search high and low for the surgeon.  I will be going out of town to the same city and hospital where I had my DS to have my LBL/ thigh reduction.

That is my current insurance as well. It ended up that the hospital and insurance co came to an agreement, so I will not be switching. Thanks for the info!

That's great to hear!

It's just like getting the WLS...never give up!

I hope you do well with the RNY and don't need to revise that later.

That surgery never would have worked for me...I'm not a good dieter, and let's face it, after the "honeymoon", it's usually right back to restrictive dieting again, plus I hear there are foods RNY's have difficulty with, like dense meats and high-fiber foods like salad.  there's even a lady from my church who is a failed RNY, and talked to me about revising to the DS.  I think there's only three surgeons in the US who will reconstruct the pouch to a sleeve, so it really ends up being a distal RNY if you don't get one of them.

In the end, we all choose the tool that's best for us individually.

Hope your plastics go well for you!
