I'm also doing some long term planning and thought I would post up and ask for your thoughts. At my 3 yr surgiversary now. At the surgery goal, but will be trying to lose 20-30 more. I need to get an idea of how much this will cost and what I should do. Thinking lat 2014 or early 2015 for surgery depending. I have my first consult in January 2014

My priority areas probably will be like everyone else but of course I am a man. I've actually had PS before for a breast reduction after losing a lot of weigh pre surgery 15 years ago.short story is from the time I was a boy always had breasts. Well man breasts anyways. Teased my whole life into adulthood. Got in many fist fights over that and a hell of a cat fight with a girl who tore me up. Must have been something I said about her mother. Not my fault, lol, don't pick on the fat guy. Anyway after RNY I have the standards issues.

Huge stomach skin, I think I can actually surround a small person
Even though male, the mons area is daunting
Drooping breasts, would consider pec implant
Flanks
inners thighs
Bat wings

I listed them sort of in order of importance to me. I work out a lot now and if I go natural I sweat and start sounding like a one man band.

Aside from the shock of seeing myself without clothes, my primary reasons start with hygiene but what will be really gratifying is being able to wear clothes better. I contain my huge belly with a insta slim, but have trouble keeping my pants on or looking like an inner tube.

Any advice on how to approach this would be helpful. Wondering if I should do it in one shot or how best to break this up. I know the doc will tell me his thoughts, but I'd like to be better aware before I see him.

Thanks in advance
Chrispy

Hello,

If you have not done so please post this on the Men's Forum.

There have been a few men posting but it is true that for the most part the women seem to post more.
That being said, hygiene issues/rashes/fungi in the folds of skin should be shown to GP/dermatologist to be documented while you verify your HMO coverage for plastics after weight-loss; not cosmetic surgery.
Best of luck on this part of your journey to a healthier you.

Thanks for the response. I took the advice as another way to get more input, not that I shouldnt post here. This is the PS forum afterall In my case this will probably be self pay unless I can prove a functional issue, which just may be the case for the panni. We'll see what happens.

I did post there as well. But not a lot of PS talk under the men forum. I'll take what I can get

Hi Crispy,

I lurk more than post but I will share my experience.

I will be 2 years out in October.  I am down 120 lbs, maintaining between 180 - 185.  I try and get 3 days of cardio and 3 days of lifting in during the week.

I carried most of my weight in my stomach area.  I just had a full LBL and TT Monday morning.  I used Dr. Capella out of Ramsey, NJ.  I interviewed another, I believe both had experience, but the way Dr. Capella practice is run, it allows him to be much more affordable, besides the fact that he is very good.  I did have self pay, totaling almost 10k.  There was some lipo of my chest area as well.  I developed a hematoma and the Dr. sent me to the ER the next day and had emergency surgery to take care of that.  Came home Wednesday and healing better now.  I know that some of the other area can limit your mobility, so I do not know the best way to split up all that you want to accomplish.  With the TT, (for me), it is making it harder to get our 'normal' amount of food in and that can tire you out during the day.  Each day you can tolerate a little more.  I am soso on the pain meds.  I hurt the most on sudden movements, or laughing.  If I think of more I will share.  Sorry for the run on paragraph, the enter button is acting up.

Hi JM, it is good to meet another patient of Dr. Capella. You a re the first male that I have met. Congrats on your surgery and wishing you a good recovery. I am having a ton of body work with him in a few weeks and I am wondering about insurance coverage for complications. I have very good insurance but the dumdums would not tell me if any complications arising out of cosmetic surgery were covered or not. Can you tell me if yours were? It is concerning to me because as you know, the hospital is freaking expensive. I do not want to end up owing thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to them. Thanks very much!

Stop over and visit us on Dr Sauceda's forum.  We've had 5-8 men have surgery and they have posted about their experiences.  Some have pics in the photo section.  levittown_loser - aka Tom Blanchard can give you more info (on FB).  Check out his pics in the photo section - http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/Dr_Sauceda_Patients/discussion/

You are best to do this is as few surgeries as possible both for best aesthetic outcomes and most cost efficiency. You can read an interview that I did with Dr. Capella on this http://www.healthcentral.com/obesity/c/276918/162591/interview-capella-plastic-1?ap=831

all of my body work with Dr. Capella is about $25k. That includes complete upper and lower body lift and medial thigh lift. That is my entire body! If you read the entire article those are all my before and after photos as well as pix of Dr. Capella in surgery. He is the most experienced plastic surgeon in the world with massive weight loss patients and he does incredible work. I cannot believe the results I got with just a tummy tuck. I am going in a few weeks for the rest of my body and I cannot wait to wake up small! Well maybe except for my boobs, LOL!

Hi MBL,

Sorry for the sidejack Crispy.  Reading your articles was one of the reasons I chose Dr. Capella.  I am curious as to whether my insurance will cover as well, not sure yet.   My 1 week out is next Wednesday, I was going to check with the doctor then.  As soon as I find something out, I will let you know.
