Abdominoplasty approved by insurance!

I had a consult over a month ago with a PS locally.  They sent in the pani portion to insurance and told me that the $3100 difference would be billed as cosmetic and would have to be paid up front.

The insurance approved the pani removal that the surgeons office submitted.  I had read my coverage documents and knew that pani and abdominoplasty were covered under the same policy.  I asked my surgeons office to submit the other part and it was APPROVED.

It does make me wonder how many people they had pay for the procedure just because they didnt think it was covered so they never submitted it!

Can't hurt to try, that's for sure.  Read your coverage docs.  They are long and boring but what you find may surprise you. I gave my PS the code that I found in my docs.

FYI I did have documented rashes.  It just drove me crazy that they wouldn't have submitted all of it if I hadn't told them to.

The PS told me I needed abdominoplasty then submitted pani removal to insurance- did not make sense.

My surgeon told me it would not be approved, and I asked him to submit anyway, and it was!

Great!  In my case they thought it would cover a portion.  Just means we need to understand our coverage and make sure it is submitted for approval.
