Back Pain from Tummy Tuck - Couple of questions
Hi - I will be doing a tummy tuck scheduled for labor day weekend. I hear that you won't be able to walk straight up for several days post-op and that your back begins to hurt from being hunched over so much.
A few questions for all my Tummy Tuck vets :-)
1. How long did it take for you to walk straight up?
2. Do you think doing Back exercises (i.e pull downs, planks) will straighten the back muscles enough to prevent back pain?
3. How do you feel about your scar? Does your scar make you feel self-conscience during sex? (This question is especially for us single people who don't have spouses that are already pretty understanding LOL )
Thank you so much!
Never thought of back exercises before.
It was enough to slowly walk around after the TT and it was my lower back that hurt.
I am single now but I am 50 years old and had a child by c-section so my scar is even lower. I think of every scar on my body as medal for all my struggles and efforts after the damage I caused my body by becoming so overweight.

it took me about 2 weeks to be totally upright, but even then by the end of the day i was a little slumped. probably 3 weeks til straight all day.
i didn't do a ton of back focused work pre-op (i was more focused on my belly), but it wouldn't hurt to put in the extra work. that was probably the most painful part of surgery for me.
at just shy of 6 weeks out i'm okay with my scar, it's honestly a lot better than i expected. the guy i've been talking to (an ex actually) knew about my surgery and has no issue with it.
Had my lower body lift last October (pics on my profile page). I had some of the same concerns you did:
1. It was about two weeks before I could start to straighten up and three before I was really walking straight up.
2. No back exercises. I have had problems with several herniated disks in my back for years and the lower back pain is part of the reason my insurance paid for the tummy tuck portion of my surgery. My back didn't actually hurt that badly right after surgery, which probably had something to do with the huge amount of pain killers I took I had more pain 5 weeks out when I went back to work, because I had so much padding removed from the butt lift, it was the first time in my life I was sitting on my tailbone. Took some time to get used to!
3. Ok, I am a 35 yr old single woman who is actively dating. This was a huge concern of mine beforehand, and I was initially really worried about showing a man my scars. But let me honestly tell you, men do not care! The man I am seeing now has never even asked where the scars came from, not one word. They just consider themselves lucky enough get your underwear off in the first place!
Good luck,
Angela
1. About 3 weeks (still hunched a little after a long day or lots of walking at 6 weeks)
2. I did loads of exercise including back work preop, still had back pain
3. The scar is better than the loose, flappy skin to me. I would venture to say, that even an unsightly scar is no big deal to an intimate partner. Anyway, they fade a lot with time.
Hi!
I'm 1 week post-tummy tuck and I actually feel great. I've started standing up a lot straighter yesterday and today. I honestly don't think doing back exercises will help prevent back pain. I had some pain primarily due to the fact I had to sit hunched over and I didn't move too much. My scar so far looks a lot better than I could ever imagine. I still have my stitches in, but everything seems to be going great.
