Wound vac. Arm lift questions

I have had anchor cut lower body lift and now thigh lift with large volume lipo. The LBL I got a little bit of separation and had to wet to dry packing. The thigh I got a large infection that required second surgery and wound vac size is 8 in by 4 in by 2 in deep I want my arms done by scared of getting an other infection. This last one about did me in. Still recovering from it. Just wondering if many people get infections with the arms. I hate my arms the most but my dr talked me into getting the hardest thing done first. So my question how many of you guys had problems with your arms. Second have you had this large of wound and how long did it take you to heal. You don't have to have answers to both questions but information would be helpful

I don't have any helpful information specific to your questions, but I feel the same in that I am terrified of infections with plastics.  I had a caesarian with my first daughter and ended up with hospital acquired MRSA and had a bunch of really gross things I dealt with because of it.  I was so terrified of that outcome I opted for a (successful) VBAC with my second daughter.  When I had my VSG I was only scared of complications with infections, which I thankfully didn't have.  Now that I am looking into plastics I am dealing with the same fears, only this time the incisions are so much larger and over so much of my body.  I know I am going to make sure to load up on protein and vitamins and make my body as healthy as I can before plastic surgery.  I will also make my concerns known with the surgeon and his team so that they can take whatever extra steps they can to help.

I can only imagine the pain and hardships you have endured in your journey and I wish you luck and health in your next steps.  Honestly, it is comforting to know that even with all you have been through, the body you have after plastics is still amazing enough to push through these obstacles and continue with your enhancements!  Best of luck!

Thank you so much for the well wishes.  Yes even with the complications I am so much happier with the way I look    Just can't wait to get back on my feet all the way.  Thanks for the reply

I had my arm lift on April 11 2013.

I got my armpits open 1 week after surgery and it took 2 month for them to close.

I had no infection, I had bacteria on top and my doctor used some nitrate to treat it to make sure it will close.

I used Dakin solution and always make sure my wounds were cover by dry gauze.

I hope you will not get it, you had enough.

Good luck.

Alla

Your situation is right up my alley.
My personal info:
I live in Israel and the hospital I had surgery in in three hours away by bus. My PS is Dr.Josef Haik-a PS in Body Contouring and Burn Specialist. He has his own clinic but also works out of a major hospital in Israel.
I had RnY in 2008 with a high weight of 120Kilo but a body short at 152cm.
Hypothyroid.COPD with asthma but non-smoker. HbA1C was 5.8 before RnY. Now it is 3.7
In August 2011, weighing 83K, I had TT (but only lower belly as per medical coverage of my HMO). Three kilo were removed. About a month after the plastics I had dehiscence and slough the size of a dime near where the upside down T incision. I had debridement in operating theatre and wet to dry packing. The next morning after removing all the gauze and viewing during Rounds (I felt I was the silk scarves in a magician' hat and the removal was unexpected excruciating pain!) the doctors decided to put me on a Wound Vac. Living in Israel with Socialized Medicine and being far from home and the hospital knowing I live alone, it was decided I stay in hospital where I remained for about seven weeks. I named the Vac Jack and we would go for walks around the hospital until the stupid Jack would beep even when plugged in!
Last year the end of July 2012 I had Breast Lift. Instead of hanging sausages I now have large half mangoes and dog-ears (which I hope will be corrected mid-October as that is the date I was given). About three after the surgery my right breast slowly opened along the areola incision and after done time between my HMO nurse choosing different bandaging treatment Han was prescribed by my PS I was hospitalized. After five days I had day surgery and the incisions was stitched closed - however it slowly reopened and only totally closed by the end of October.
We never found out why I have wound-healing issues. I am not diabetic. I do not smoke. My zinc levels are high. I take my vitamins. My body is a mystery.
I have fought bureaucracy for each surgery and even now for the dog-ears which are directly connected to the Breast Lift I have to prove it is not cosmetic when I am in pain or else I will have to pay out of pocket 1000SH/250$ for each side separately (to help prevent wound healing problems)to be done in Day surgery.
Am I happy with my results? Not totally but as many have written before me and I write in response to others - we may not get perfection but we will get improvement for as for so many of us the hanging flabbiness sagging skin was causing rashes and debilitating mobility and many of us can only get pro endures done that our HMO will pay for.
Do I want more? Yes! I am in Appeals for inner thighplasty. We get one area done and it feels great after the pain and recovery and we fantasize on the next area to refurbish on our bodies.
If you want to talk I am quite happy to call you (or anyone else) if you on me your phone number and when is best to call. Israel is seven hours later than NY. I tend to be a night-owl. My email is [email protected]

I had a large area (along with several small areas) of my incision become infected and open up after my LBL.  I ended up with a wound vac on the largest of the openings.  I had it for 6 weeks, and then required a secondary surgery to cut out the wound bed and reclose the area.  THAT area then became infected and developed a seroma, which required opening to drain.  It has been about a month since the closure surgery, and I am just now beginning the process to close that secondary wound.  I am 3 months post LBL.

I too, have several other areas I want to have done (thighs, arms, breasts and a revision to my tummy), and am terrified and have been advised that "less is more" when it comes to me and plastics.  :(  NOT happy, even with my initial results, and feel completely stuck as to correcting those or moving forward with additional plastics.  For me, the whole process and expense was worthless.

I completely understand the feeling and fear.   I am sorry you are having so much trouble    I really think I am going to be done but it is very hard every time I catch a glimpse of my arms.   I have worked so hard it's hard to leave it undone

I had no problems with my arms, I popped a stitch, it weeped a day or two and then was fine.  It never even swelled.  Very easy surgery for me.  My extended tt with muscle tightening was more swelling but no problems there either, my neck lift was the most painful.
