Budget Skin removal advice for DFW area?
I am over a year out, down 230 lbs and would like to see if I can find a surgeon or plastic surgeon willing to remove excess skin. I am NOT at all concerned with a plastic surgery type almost invisible scar, train tracks would be fine with me. I want the skin off for mobility issues, not for cosmetic ones.
I would never win any beauty contest anyway. If I stay stateside, would be looking for someone preferably in DFW area, may consider Houston.
I might consider out of the country as I hear it's much more affordable.
Any advise?
Regards
Allen
My advice;
Please go for a consult with Dr. Lomonaco in Houston.
Check out a residency program for the surgery.
do not go to Mexico for surgery.
understand what criteria to look for when choosing a surgeon for body contouring after massive weight loss. This IS major surgery and our bodies Re very different from people who have not had massive weight loss.
be sure to separate marketing hype from fact-based evidence when reviewing the surgeon's credentials.
look at lots of before and after photos.
read patient reviews, and call or email a few of the surgeon's patients.
Have no argument from me. If and when I ever have any PS done it will be within 70 miles of the house! Besides that before I can have a make over I have to do the kitchen makeover and probably one for the Mrs. first. Tells me that when I get tired of her saggy stomach skin and breast I'll be happy to pay for her PS!
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
I agree with MY BARIATRIC LIFE 100%. I just had ps- it is not just about the scars. You will have a better recovery, less complications with a better surgeon. You need experience. There can be many potential complications from lbl and surgeries- not just "train track scars", but infections, numbness, paralysis, and even death. You need to use a very experience dr. You abused your body to get it to be MO, so even if you have to wait an additional year or two, be good to yourself, get the best ps you can afford. Cut corners and buy cheaper clothes or a cheaper car, do not bargain hunt for a ps. (also it it amazing that the best ones don't even necessarily charge a lot more, because they do it all the time and have a system, they can do it faster and better, and more than 1 surgery at a time, which saves you money). I had lbl, arms, breast lift, muscle tightening 2 wks ago, I can not be any happier. (The first week of recovery is painful so you need percocet and the drains are a ***** At the end of 2nd wk, all drains were gone, and I am still swollen, but not on anything stronger than tylenol (one or two a day if I feel uncomfortable) . No complications so far, I have been out shopping, eating, resuming my life, although I am not working now. I used Dr Capella (NJ) as I am NYC area- DR CAPELLA DOES AMAZING WORK, but if I were in Texas, I would definitely check with Dr LoMonaco. I feel that train tracks are not just a minor cosmetic issue but a symptom of the quality of a ps work. (Remember with lbl ps does several layers of stitches, like 6, and remember that is what is holding YOU together) Good luck to you- losing 230 lbs is AMAZING:)
i no what you mean you get what you pay for i am on ssi it took me 5 years to save 3000.00 i found a docter in mobile alabama he was about 70 in age but when it was all done he did not hardly take any thang off i no he could took more cause i saw like 4 docters around me but could not pay for them naw i well have to sart over
If I could I would go to Dr.Sauceda in Mexico but I totally hear you on concern for post-op risk of complications as I had my fair share here in Israel in a hospital three hours away from home by public transportation.
Check out Dr.Lomanco as he is close and there are many good reviews about him.
Insurance: if you are aiming for HMO coverage, document any rashes or cuts in the skin folds via your GP or skin doc; orthopedist if back or knee problems due to hanging skin.
Yoj are not looking for Cosmetic surgery but you are asking for RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY AFTER WEIGHT LOSS TO A SENSE OF NORMALCY.
Even with my complications I still marvel at my flat belly (three kilo removed). My tummy tuck was only the apronectomy based on what my HMO would cover. A year later I fought and won for a breast lift. Now I need a minor revision on dog ears of the sides of the breasts - and I have to fight my HMO that it is not cosmetic when I am in pain!
Once we fix one area we notice what else should be done as that or those areas stick out more. We want a sense of perfection when we know we ain't gonna be bathing suit models. We may moot get perfection but we can certainly get improvement!
