Amount of time on operating table for LBL

Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone had experience with the amount of time a LBL operation would take.  Background is, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass in Oct of 2011.  I have been maintaining a 115-120 lb weight loss for about 6 months (started at 300lbs).  I have had two consults with plastic surgeons for a LBL.  I was comfortable with both surgeons, but one expects me to be in the OR for about 5.5 hours and the other says he could do this operation in about 3 hours.  I have been described (by both surgeons) as a straight forward case, nothing tricky.  I feel more comfortable with the doctor that says it will only take 3 hours.  Both surgeons have 15+ years specifically related to this.

Is it just a case of, everyone and every surgeon is different?

All of my searches bring back recovery time, not actual operation time:(

Thanks in advance.

I was in the OR for 8.5 hours for my LBL, which also included autoaugmentation of the buttock and a mons lift.

I had a LBL and inner thigh lipo.  I was on the table about 7 1/2 hours.

I was also said to be a straightforward case by my surgeon. That day the nurses told us it was about a 5 hr procedure but right before putting me out my surgeon said I wasn't going to be tricky so it'd be closer to 3. Maybe the 5.5 hours is counting prep time in the OR, because I sat right outside the OR getting my IV in and talking to the anesthesiologist for I'd say 1-2 hours. Or maybe the 5.5 is just the average, but where you're an "easy" case it'll be less. I wouldn't necessarily base your decision on a surgeon on this because they could simply be counting differently.

I spent 6.5 hours on my first surgery of a Fleur de Lis Tummy Tuck and Hernia repair.  My second surgery was a butt lift, thigh lift and tummy tuck revision and it took 6.5 hours also.  No complications either time.

I was in surgery about 12 hrs with an epidural and twilight sedation for an LBL (with butt flap augmentation and mons lift - done as part of the LBL), BL, arms and small groin thigh lift).  4 days later I had a full neck & face lift.  I took off 8 weeks before going back to work.

I went back in January for an upper body lift and was off for 3 weeks.
