All at opnce or one at a time?

Depends on the surgeon BUT even if the surgeon will do it at the same time, I will warn you against doing upper body, and lower body stuff at the same time.

It's bad enough to have limited use of your legs for instance, with lower body work, but when you add being unable to maneuver or shift to even roll over or get out of the bed because you also can use your upper body much due to arm or boob work, unpleasant shifts to hellish.

I've done multiple surgeries more then once, and being in pain and limited ability is one thing. Being in pain, and totally helpless is another thing completely.

I had the works done all at once - thighs, arms, LBL BL/BA and UBL. There was no way I was going to be having surgeries and recovering three separate times - that would have been a year and a half of surgeries and recoveries. I'm v. pleased with my results and now at 6 months out _ I feel great and just need the scars to fade to be perfect. Most of what I read says that takes about 9 months.

I am single and went to Mexico with Dr. Sauceda by myself and it was easy, not at all scary and I stayed for two weeks and was taken care of the entire time. I never could have had surgery and gone home alone as I would have had to in the states. I liked being away and having it done. After two weeks I had no problem flying home (with no drains) alone. I took it easy for a total of six weeks - watched loads of TV and allowed myself to be lazy lazy lazy. After the six weeks was up I went back to work.

None of the pain was bad. Had plenty of medication the first week.

I was worried about the thighs too cause I heard how difficult they were for most surgeons. My thighs are great. My whole body looks like it was ironed. I feel way better about myself.

How long did the surgery take, and did you have general anesthesia?

I backed up from one surgeon last year because he wanted to do it with an epidural, and there was no way I wanted to see pounds of flesh taken from my legs!

I can't afford to travel to Mexico, because mine would be covered under Medicare for medical necessity. I'm on disability, and this is the last piece of surgery before I try to go full throttle on getting back to work or school to get my nutrition classes out of the way., on my way to retraining as a RD. I also have lupus and fibromyalgia, the primary causes of my disability. The weight interfered with the drugs to treat it, so All I could do was prednisone, which helped me up to 405!  my last 20 pounds to my target of 165 is the skin and fat deposits.

The surgeon here I was saving for the top half (he does good work..he came and spoke to our support group with pictures) is going to do the thighplasty./LBL.   He says mine is the worst he's ever seen, and that's why he wants to stage it.

Right now, I'm living in a great capri length body shaper , which unfortunately, Jockey doesn't make anymore.  It's silky on the surface, and doesn't cling to your clothes like the others do.

MExico is definitely not for everyone. I was v. healthy. And I'm v. independent.

He used something called twilight sedation. I don't have any problems with anesthesia - I love being knocked out and I never woke up during surgery. Was out like a light and felt great when I awoke in the recovery room. I hear the effects of twilight sedation are much less grave than general anesthesia.

I'm an easy patient and did what was best for me. Consider your options and make a wise choice. God luck.

I understand how difficult that would be, but I also plan to check into a rehab facility for wound care and rehab post-op, or have a home health aide for the healing process, since I am alone, and have no relatives nearby to help.

I wanted to get as much done as possible in one shot, but finances limited me. I pretty much wanted the works, except for thighs. I wound up only getting 2 procedures with Dr. S, breast lift and TT.

Hindsight, I am very glad that is all I got!

In reference to plum's post, I am very healthy and very independent, also very capable strong and fit. I still am having complications and had a very tough journey home being alone. I also think I had some hormones out if whack, that made me more emotional and and I also had a lot of pain due to leg nerve issue and back pain. I say you were lucky, I was unlucky!

We really can not predict how we will feel or what our bodies will do, and we can only guess, based on previous surgery or cir****tances. I had a very easy VSG recovery, so I did not expect this.

Do I still really wish my arms were done? Yes...But glad to have use of them in bandaging all these open wounds. Do I wish I had the LBL? No, very happy I skipped that, and do not have more incisions, and my back side is ok. Same for the upper body lift.

And implants, so glad didnt get them, having so many openings, and that means sometimes, it can get infected, and they would have to come out anyway till a later time. And lipo, didnt get either at last minute, and glad because that is known to cause more swelling and slower healing time. I am already swelling up like a balloon and slower healing. Also got seromas.

So again, staged has benefits, I did not even think of, in all my researching beforehand. But of course, if you are lucky, and heal well in one recovery, it is nice to get it all done and over with! I would have done it, if I had the $$$ at the time.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

PS, MX was not scary at all. The mountains are beautiful, people are nice, and the area felt very safe. The care I received was top notch and all precautions were taken as you would receive in a US hospital. Dr. S and his nurse, Patty are awesome and caring. It definitely would have been nice to know English, to speak with locals and to read signs and things, but of course, you can get by, I did, but it did make me lonely after awhile.

I know you have insurance, so are not going to MX, but posting this for others that will read thread. Most think I am crazy when I tell them I went to MX for surgery, but being in MX was really the easier part of this plastic surgery experience so far. Dealing with after care now at home is proving a bit more of a challenge. I am glad you have a facility or wound care place to go to.
