Surgery is Monday...YIKES!

Wow...it's hard to believe that surgery is set for this Monday. I will be having an extended abdominoplasty with the fluer de lis cut, muscle tightening along with mesh repair from a previous hernia surgery. On top of all of this I will be having a vaginal hysterectomy. I am so ready for this, I have waited far too long to have this skin removed.

I had RNY 9yrs ago (9yrs to the day of my upcoming surgery...is that a sign or what!) Highest weight was 321, lost 151lbs. Had 2 babies, now up to 218. I have maintained a 100+lb weight loss for 8yrs, so I feel successful. I did want to get below 200 before surgery, but it just wasn't in the cards. My surgeon feels confident she will be removing 10+lbs if not more since I carry so much in my abdomen.

I am very concerned about the pain. I asked to have the On-Q pain pump but it is not offered. I have advised both surgeons about my pain concerns with oral meds. Vicodin does nothing for me, percocet works but only for the first 2hrs. Dilaudid makes me feel horrible/paranoid. My pharmacist suggested getting liquid Morphine and a Pain Patch. Have any of you had experience with this?

I want to wish you good luck with surgery!

i used Percocet, it was working for me good. I took 2 pills every 4 hours first 2 weeks.

This procedure is very painful, no joke.I heard patch is good to take care of pain.

All the best,

Alla

I had my surgery (extended tt with inner thigh and hip/back lipo) June 6 and my recovery has been so much easier than I expected. I'm off the Percocet except for 1 before bed. Took my first trip to the grocery store by myself yesterday, and am going to my sisters bachelorette party Saturday. I am taking it easier than usual, and if I had a job could definitely go back on Monday if not sooner. The lipo has been the most painful part but not awful. The first few days were a little rough but I just slept as much as I could. 1 Percocet every 4 hours, slowly extended the time, when I got to every 6 hours switched to 1/2 and then extended that out. This morning I took midol but that was more for its intended use lol.

Despite the swelling and it being my "favorite" time of the month, I'm down 6 pounds and 4 inches on my hips. It has been so worth it.

I had liquid morphine drip with my gastric bypass and it kept me unconscious during my hospital stay.

I had a tummy tuck 2-mos ago and was on Percocet for the first 10 days I think and Tylenol with Codeine for 2 weeks I believe -- don't hold my feet to the fire on the duration. I also had Dilaudid (sp) in the recovery room.

For me the tummy tuck was very painful, much more so than I had expected. Comparing it to the RNY that I had 10-yrs ago, I thought it was more painful. This is my recollection at least - time has a way of letting us forget pain.

If I had a choice I think I would go for the pain pump again.

The muscle tightening is what hurt me with the TT. I had no pain with the incision site.

Good luck with your procedure!!! You are going to love your results!!!

Hi Felicia! Best of luck to you. Our weights are almost on spot. I was 327 at highest weight, lost 150, then gained up to 218. Got down to 212 before surgery. I stayed there a few years. I'm five years out from bypass. After my belt lipectomy, I'm down to 201. I want to get back to ONEderland!

As for pain, I'm the same way! I can function just fine on Vicodin. I got Dllaudid every 4 hours in the hospital and it worked. I was prescribed Percocet every six hours upon leaving. No freaking way. I needed it every four. Just demand more pain meds if you need it. YOU are your best advocate!

The Q pumps are nice but honestly, I'm still numb in those areas so it really didn't make a difference.

Please keep us posted on your journey and how you're doing!! You can do this and you'll be thankful!!
