Can anyone explain redness, inflammation and irritable skin after arm lift?

I posted pics in my plastics album. Can anybody detect what this is? Maybe someone has also experienced this?

Hi!

I couldn't see your pictures as your profile is private, but I will tell you that i had what you described after my arm lift.  It turned out I had a yeast infection.  It started by itching, but was very very painful and inflamed by the time I got myself back to the PS for an evaluation.  It was red and looked and felt awful - but the pain also felt "superficial" if that make sense... so I suspected it was a skin infection and not anything deeper.

The surgeon quickly diagnosed it as a yeast infection.  Since I tend to sweat a lot, he said that was likely the cause... also since I had to take antibiotics (as many do as a preventative after surgery) that made me more suseptible.  I joked that my very first yeast infection ever was in my armpit -- I couldn't believe it! LOL!

The good news is that it started to clear up quickly after just a couple of days of treatment.  He gave me a prescription for anti-fungal cream, but said I could also just use OTC Lotrimin.   So, the same stuff that is used for athlete's foot or jock itch.

So, I would get yourself to your PS (or primary care if your PS isn't somewhat local) and get it evaluated.   I'm sorry you are going through this.  I will tell you honestly that my arm lift was far more painful and tougher than my anchor tummy tuck.  I had my tt 4 weeks ago, and my arm lift 2 1/2 months ago.  I have no pain right now from my tt, but my arms still hurt!    They are tender to the touch, as if they are bruised.   The yeast infection and subsequent wound openings in the armpit definitely didn't help.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hi -

Ow - that does look red and tender.  Does it feel warm at all?  If it is warm that can indicate an infection.  The only odd thing about it is that it is further down your arm rather that your armpits.  I guess the yeast infections like the dark/dampness of an armpit which is why it can show up there...  that your redness starts midarm seem unusual.  BUT, it does look very similar to the redness I had with the yeast infection.

Did it ever itch before or after it became red and sore?  If so, that would also support the idea of a yeast infection.  But, in general, infections can look red like that - so yeast infection or other kind of infection, it does appear that you have "something" going on.  It may go away on it's own, or it may get worse if you don't take something for it.  No way to know, unfortunately, so it's best to have a doctor take a look and make the call.

Are you having your PS take a look?  When is your next checkup? How are you feeling today - better or worse?

Hang in there!  The shape of your arm looks great, and I'm sure you'll be very happy with the results once you are all done healing!

Hi there, he attributed it to the inner sutures and prescribed a heavy dose of antibiotics. So far so good. He said it should clear up soon
