Time Out of Work for a LBL?
Hope you are doing better. I had a follow up with my PS yesterday and we booked the surgery for June 5 (yay!). I'm mentally prepared that it going to hurt like the dickens and I will have (at least) a "hell" week.
Can I ask you, before your LBL, did you work out a lot? I am hoping that since I am in a much better physical condition (I run, having done 1/2 marathons, kickbox 2x a week, weight train 3x a week and walk daily now) than I was for my bypass that I would be able to recover from the LBL better than I did for my bypass. Maybe that is just naive optimism on my part, but fingers crossed!
thank you so much for the update!

More update- I wont be returning to work any time soon. I now have a 4-5" open wound that is bleeding and gushing all sorts of lovely fluid pretty much nonstop. Ongoing infection and 3 other "areas of concern" that may need to be opened up as well. I am still on heavy duty pain killers, which are NOT addressing the pain any longer. I am now 15 days postop.
To answer your other question- yes, I was very active prior to my LBL. I do triathalons, marathons, trail run, cross train, etc. Im in the gym or on a distance run 6 days a week. Im also a firefighter. So yes, very much so in shape. Compared to my DS (which was a horrible recovery with complications as well) this is a MILLION times worse. I pray everyday that someone will agree to readmit me to the hospital in hopes of getting the pain under control, antibiotics in faster and stronger, and the wounds cared for better than I can (they are all on my back and butt so hard to reach). Not to scare you, but definitely be prepared... From the moment I woke up from the surgery, I have wished I hadnt done it. And I feel that way more and more each day

Yes, I have been to the ER, *****ferred me to pain management. And I have also been to my PCP who started me back on the antibiotics. Those three places have been in touch with my surgeon and he IS seeing me (now) and things are being done, but I believe a lot of this could have been prevented.
So sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time. Getting a LBL, while of course is going to be painful for a little while, should be a joyous right of passage of sorts. Kinda the capstone to the weightloss journey and getting the body that you've dreamed of. Although I am sure you are in a lot of physical pain, I would imagine that it is compounded by the emotional anguish of this being so difficult and having a doc that just is not doing his job (sorry to be blunt, but your doc sounds like a jerk.
I hope you get resolution soon, this must be making you nutzo. Maybe your PCP or even Bariatric Surgeon can step in to help you? -- You probably already thought of that though right? :-)
Thank you again for the updates, I do very much appreciate it. I know a LBL won't be easy and it is always prudent to hear different experiences (both good and bad)
