Lost your belly button?

Im just wondering how common it is for people that have had a TT or LBL to lose their belly button?  My surgeon mentioned that it is a potential complication, more possible if youve had previous surgeries to your abdomen.  Well, Ive had THREE laparoscopic abdominal surgeries, so of course, Im concerned.  In any case- Id love to hear from others.  Did you lose your belly button?  What were your previous surgeries?  And there truly isnt ANYTHING that can be done to replace a lost belly button?  I mean, really?

I kept mine w/o any problems and I've had 2 previous laparoscopic surgeries. Had my gallbladder removed, then RNY 8 months later. Then year later had the LBL and healed perfectly and no mention of losing belly button from my surgeon.

It may be a possible complication, but I don't think it's common.  I had two prior lap surgeries, then a LBL.  Surgeon talked about belly button being repositioned, but nothing about losing it.

Most PS redo your belly button and most people are quite pleased with their new belly button.
That being said, all my previous abdo surgeries were not laparoscopic and my TT was an inverted T. I told the PS I did not want a new or any belly button so as to avoid any complications. One cute hunk resident PS interning in Israel from Mexico teased me that I wanted to be like Adam and Eve. In any case, I got my TT with no belly button and I healed very poorly and developed a slough which turned to a small gangrene that needed debridement and was I was treated with a Wound Vac for almost seven weeks.
If your PS says he can do you a new belly button-go for it!
I don't mind not having a belly button but I regret the poor healing I endured and I wonder if I had had a belly button if I would not have had a complication. I know that is a dumb theory.

I don't think it is that common. I have not read many stories here of people losing theirs. My surgeon did not even mention it as a possibility. Tell him to do his best to save it!!

My PS didn't mention it, but I did read it was a possible complication on the consent form.

I had two abdominal surgeries before my LBL. gastric sleeve and gall bladder removal. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and my belly button looks almost normal. It looked pretty gruesome at first. But it's just a bit red now. I doubt anyone will even be able to see a scar later.

I had two previous abdominal lap surgeries (gall bladder removed when I was a teenager, then later the sleeve), plus two c-sections (those probably don't matter in this regard, though).  I had an anchor tt 19 days ago.  A lost bb was never mentioned to me as a possibility.  I do have a bell button, but it is new.  I don't know exactly what that means, but I do know the exterior is not the same as my previous belly button because I had a distinct scar inside my belly button from a previous lap surgery.

Healing of my belly button has been a bit rough - it is the only area in which I've had any trouble at all (which is saying something for an anchor tt!)   I have one area that is still very raw, even still has a little blood... but it is getting treated with some special zinc wound treatment and I think it's going to heal just fine eventually.    PS said the wound issues I had were related to loss of circulation to that area and extremely common.

As part of my tummy tuck, I got a brand new belly button.

I thought that if you were only getting a panniculectomy it was common to lose the belly button, but with a fully tuck, you should have one reconstructed if you need it.

Personally, I would insist on a belly button or see another surgeon for a second or third opinion.

Dr Sauceda moved my BB with my LBL.  I'd had my DS 2.5 yrs before, which Dr Rabkin used a hand port around my BB to grab my intestines and measure them for the DS.  No prob with it healing in the new area.

I had many laparoscopic abdomen surgeries (more than 5) and my belly button was fine.  I think they just have to list it at a potential risk.

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!
