Excessive Skin Removal

I have lost 300 pounds and have huge amounts of excessive skin. I am only covered by a Medicare Advanage plan, so I keep hearing about "medically necessary." My medical doctors believe it is as I have back issues, neck issues, rashes, etc. My arms are so huge the hanging flesh is fast approaching my forearms. But the plastic docs don't seem very interested in helping--for them it is all about dollars and they don't want to fight Medicare. I am sure my medical docs will work with me, but I don't know if I have enough documentation. I am not even sure what I need to produce. I take such precautions against infections, etc., that the problems may be difficult to document fully.

I live in East Texas.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Although I live in Israel,
Keep complaining to your GP on each and every problem your skin suffers.
Check the OH suite and type in the search engine for PS in your area as you want a PS qualified and expert in post weight-loss people as they would be much more likely to write a recommendation as you need.
Hopefully others will chime in with more accurate information.

First of all congrats on your weight loss.  I've lost over 300 lbs, so I know what excess skin is like.  My medical insurance refused ALL payment on anything related to plastics.  So I had to pay cash.

The best thing for you to do is contact Medicare Advantage and find out exactly, IN WRITING, what they require to cover your procedures.  Every plan with every state is different.  YOU need to know what to document and what will get your procedures covered.  No one from this site can tell you exactly what is needed.

Be proactive, be your own advocate and get everything in writing.

I was like you - I bathed 2 to 3 times a day, I had no rashes, NOT one, ever and  my arms measured 28 inches around - of hanging skin!  it was horrible.  My panni weighed 19 lbs when it was removed, it hung almost to my knees.  Still my insurance refused payment AND I was living on pain meds due to back pain.  Good Luck getting payment.
