Curious, I'm 18 months post op RNY. Did you change your eating habits (less food intake) becausethe malabsorbtion is over? Some people have told me to lose 10 more pounds than I want due to weight gain after 18 months. I'd love to hear your take on this.

I see this "lose 10 extra because of bounce back".........and I think it is hogwash.  Realistically, your body is going to stop when it is done.  Yes, you can diet yourself lower, but unless you stay on a diet, you'll gain that back anyway....so it is almost like you are setting the stage for bounceback.

My body stopped at 165.........and that is where I've been ever since......and I'm not in the "normal" BMI range, I'm actually considered overweight, but I have lots of well defined muscle tissue and the BMI charts do not account for that.

Oh, and I never changed my maintenance eating habits because malabsorption stopped....once I got to maintenance I've pretty much stayed at the same activity level and calorie level.

I bumped my protein up to 175-200g daily for 3-4 weeks before PS and for 3-4 mo after.  I don't count calories only protein.  With the DS I do eat a bit different.  I was also adding in protein shakes for more readily available protein.  I'm sure that it helped in my healing.  I did the same for my last PS in Jan.  I'm almost 9 weeks out.  I did drop 8lbs and so far it's still gone, it was from a regain, so no extra is off.

This is very helpful for me.  I havent counted a calorie or fat gram in over 3 years, but do count protein.  I shoot for 100-150g protein daily.  I never stopped drinking at least one protein shake a day, 2 on heavy workout days.  Ill bump it back to 2 a day for sure, now that Im in the countdown to plastics.  Thanks!

Wow! I'm very impressed by your protein intake (what a strange compliment, huh?)  I think I could only achieve half those numbers - and that is with lots of protein shakes.  I'm vegetarian, so I tend to use shakes and quest bars to ensure my protein intake is adequate.  But that's "adequate" and not heroic!  :)

Thank you so much for posting this and sharing this. You are really inspiring me to up my protein intake much more, even in the week and half (aaaaack!!!) I have here leading up to surgery.

What is your usual protein intake - I mean, when not bumped up to help with plastic surgery healing?

Thanks again!

Normal protein intake is between 100-150g daily.
