Pain from irritation at drain tube - any pointers?

Alright - my drain tubes exit out the back of my extended tummy tuck making it very hard to get comfortable when sleeping. I guess I slept on them wrong and they just hurt and ache. I looked at the wound and its not infected or anything. Is there any type of cream or technique or magic powers or pointers that can make this more pleasant. Tylenol is all Im allowed and quite frankly its a crummy pain reliver. Thanks for any help. I got to deal with this for two more weeks. But yes - I remind myself - its worth the sacrifice of comfort at the moment. Im gonna stay positive and be a trooper.

When my tubes would start to irritate the opening, I would wriggle them around until I could find some comfort in a different position and then I would take surgical tape and tape them in place to keep them there.  I hope you can find some comfort.

If the skin around the tube is the least bit irritated I always have found calmoseptine to help (it is kind of like a diaper rash cream, but it makes it MUCH better.  I also have to remove the tape and use no tape as after a few days that starts irritating things.

I may have had a few extra potholes along the way, but the journey has been good!

How do you sleep? Is it in a bed or a recliner? I slept in a recliner for a good while. I also used tape to maneuver the tubes around and adjust them so they wouldn't get caught on anything. Ask your PS if he or she can prescribe Lortab. That stuff was like gold to me. It's going to be painful at times but really worth it to get those drains out. And when they come out, they will be painful. The Lortab will help with pain.  Good luck.

With a little trial and error I figured it out. I took square gauze pads and cut a slit about half way down and slid it down over the drain tube and secured with tape. Then I got an ace bandage and wrapped it around my waist a few times to keep things from moving around. So far so good. I start work again tomorrow so I am glad I got the problem resolved.  Because I am able to sleep good now I feel my energy returning and am super happy with that.
